Exploring AI in Animation: Hong Kong’s Future Animation Initiative Shines at Annecy 2026

Hong Kong's Future Animation Scheme at Annecy 2026

The Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (HKDEA) recently launched its third installment of the "Future Animation - AI-Assisted Animation Production Support Scheme". This innovative program is dedicated to enhancing animation production through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This year, the initiative prominently featured at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market 2026 in France, highlighting six selected companies that displayed their original AI-assisted animations at the event.

The event took place from June 23 to June 26, 2026, at the picturesque Annecy Lake in France. The opening ceremony for the Hong Kong Pavilion occurred on June 23, drawing industry experts and stakeholders from around the globe. Attendees witnessed a showcase of creativity intertwining with cutting-edge technology, a hallmark of Hong Kong's vibrant digital entertainment sector.

With the goal of promoting local talent on an international stage, this year’s participants are:
  • - eMotionLAB LTD. with their project REFRAME
  • - Fanflare Creative Limited showcasing Full Throttle Kitchen
  • - Newgen Creativity Limited, presenting Tuen Mun Vs. Tin Shui Wai
  • - Point Five Creations featuring Airbag
  • - Queenkong Land ACG., Co., Ltd. with Cirkillation
  • - Taproot Studio Limited presenting Odium ZERO.

This initiative not only spotlights the unique cultural character of Hong Kong animation but also nurtures connections within the global animation community. Throughout the four-day exhibition, the six companies had the opportunity to engage with other animation studios and professionals worldwide, fostering a productive exchange of ideas and collaboration.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the "Hong Kong Partner Pitches" event held on June 23 provided these companies with a platform to pitch their projects to international industry professionals and potential investors, aiming to cultivate new collaborations and investment opportunities.

The event's unparalleled significance was underscored by the attendance of key figures in the animation industry, who observed how AI integration into animation production can transform workflows, enhance creativity, and offer new storytelling capabilities. HKDEA sees this program as pivotal to empowering local talents and establishing Hong Kong as a prominent player on the world animation platform.

Furthermore, the support from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) signifies the government’s commitment to helping the cultural and creative industries flourish, reinforcing a sustainable environment conducive to growth.

In summary, the Future Animation Scheme is a trailblazing endeavor in incorporating AI into the fabric of animation production, showcasing Hong Kong's creativity and artistic spirit. As more industries embrace technology, the collaboration of creativity and innovation through initiatives like this promises to redefine the landscape of global animation.
