Smart Scan Expands MRI Services for Early Detection of Cancers

Smart Scan Expands MRI Services

In a significant move for early cancer detection, Smart Scan Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yukaria Co., Ltd. based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, plans to roll out an enhanced menu for its cancer screening services, starting May 2025. The initiative aims to tackle the often-late diagnosis of pancreatic, prostate, and uterine cancers, which can progress rapidly without noticeable symptoms. Here, we delve into the details.

Overview of the Enhanced Services

Smart Scan's extended services will offer specialized screenings for various cancers using advanced MRI technology. As these cancers often exhibit minimal symptoms in their early stages, the new offerings are designed to facilitate quicker diagnoses and improve patient outcomes.

1. Pancreatic Cancer Screening

Cost: 27,000 JPY (29,700 JPY including tax)

Pancreatic cancer has a notoriously poor prognosis, partially due to its low detectability using conventional ultrasound checks. The MRI scan provides comprehensive visibility of the pancreas, making early detection more feasible. The inclusion of MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography) will further enhance the ability to spot early signs of pancreatic and bile duct cancers, potentially leading to timely intervention.

2. Prostate Cancer Screening

Cost: 27,000 JPY (29,700 JPY including tax)

Prostate cancer rates have surged among men aged 50 and above. Advanced screenings of the pelvic area via MRI can identify potential tumors, which can be crucial in preventing the progression that necessitates surgical intervention. Given the associated risks, like urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction post-surgery, early examination becomes vital for men’s health.

3. Uterine and Ovarian Cancer Screening

Cost: 27,000 JPY (29,700 JPY including tax)

Uterine and ovarian cancers often present no symptoms initially and can develop into serious conditions over time. Regular screenings using MRI technology will identify abnormalities, including uterine fibroids and endometriosis, before they complicate treatment options. Early detection is the cornerstone of effective management for women's health issues.
