Rapid Relief Team Celebrates Volunteers with a Message of Thanks for International Volunteer Day

Celebrating Volunteers on International Volunteer Day

Today, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), a charitable division of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC), marks International Volunteer Day by recognizing the extraordinary efforts of its volunteers around the globe. In a heartfelt message from Anthony Arkcoll, Global General Manager of RRT, the organization commemorated the contributions of 16,500 volunteers operating across 14 countries, dedicating their time and energy to help those in dire situations.

Acknowledging Collective Efforts

2025 has proven to be a challenging year engendered by numerous global adversities, ranging from violent conflicts and natural disasters to persistent food shortages. Many families have faced upheaval, yet amid such strife, the spirit of volunteerism has served as a beacon of hope. Arkcoll’s message resonates with appreciation for the volunteers who have provided essential support, ranging from distributing hot meals to offering emotional solace to those struggling with adversity.

“In times of crisis, it can feel like the challenges are insurmountable,” Arkcoll noted. “However, the compassion and commitment demonstrated by our volunteers remind us all of the resilience of humanity. Their efforts have touched lives far and wide, showcasing the true definition of being a neighbor.”

Key Contributions in 2025

Throughout the year, RRT's volunteers have mobilized to support countless initiatives. They have significantly impacted many communities by:

  • - Delivering 561,000 meals through organizing and serving over 422,000 event meals across more than 1,650 events.
  • - Providing Food Boxes that totaled 23,400 deliveries, offering essential supplies to those in need.
  • - A total of 80,000 volunteer hours dedicated to making a tangible difference during times of distress.

From emergencies in cities like Los Angeles to assisting communities coping with Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, RRT volunteers have not only supported victims but also honored everyday heroes like law enforcement officers, teachers, and medical staff, underlining a collective commitment to community service.

Looking Ahead: 2026 as the Year of the Volunteer

In this year of remarkable volunteerism, RRT proudly announces that 2026 will be recognized as the Year of the Volunteer. Arkcoll emphasized the importance of sustaining this momentum into the next year and beyond, stating, “It’s essential to build upon the foundation laid by our volunteers this year. Their kindness and selflessness must continue to ripple through our communities.”

RRT’s mission embodies the PBCC principles of care, compassion, and community. As they move forward into this new year, they call on the public to join the volunteer movement, reminding us all that everyone can contribute positively and help those in need regardless of their circumstances.
