KONOIKE Group Expands Operations at Kagoshima Airport

KONOIKE Air Holding, a subsidiary of KONOIKE Transportation Co., Ltd., has recently affirmed its position in the aviation sector by securing the ground support operations for international flights at Kagoshima Airport. This new venture will commence on November 21, 2025, and is set to enhance the airport's handling capabilities for international routes, particularly with the introduction of Easter Air, a budget airline based in South Korea.

The ground support operations, also known as ground handling services, are essential for ensuring the smooth functioning of airport operations. These services include the loading and unloading of baggage, passenger check-in processes, and various other activities critical for air transport. Following the agreement, KONOIKE Air Holding is preparing to establish a new Kagoshima Airport branch in July 2025, reinforcing its commitment to local hiring and employee development to accommodate the growing inbound travel demand.

KONOIKE Group currently operates ground handling services at seven other major airports in Japan, including Narita, Haneda, and Kansai International Airports. The addition of Kagoshima Airport marks the group's expansion to its eighth airport, signalling its robust growth strategy within the domestic aviation landscape. With the rising demand for air travel, the company aims to strengthen its market position and foster community engagement throughout its operations.

In line with its Mid-Term Management Plan 2027, KONOIKE Group has identified airport business operations as one of its key focus areas. The plan outlines strategies aimed at enhancing competitiveness and expanding business outreach in the aviation sector. As the company looks toward the future, it is committed to cultivating partnerships with airlines that contribute to regional economic vitality while creating job opportunities in the local community.

Comments from KONOIKE Leadership

Kiyoshi Okamoto, the CEO of KONOIKE Air Holding and Head of the Airport Head Office, expressed gratitude for the support received during this expansion process. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of stakeholders involved in bringing this project to fruition. Okamoto emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing Kagoshima Airport's appeal as a gateway for international travelers, contributing positively to the local economy. By creating job opportunities and supporting local initiatives, KONOIKE Air Holding aims to ensure that Kagoshima Airport evolves into a more attractive destination for foreign visitors.

In summary, KONOIKE Group's newest undertaking at Kagoshima Airport not only facilitates efficient ground handling for international flights but also signifies a commitment to regional development, job creation, and a reinforced presence in the competitive air transport market. As the November 2025 launch approaches, all eyes will be on how this new contract impacts both the local community and the broader travel landscape in Japan.
