Experience the Yokai World at the Immersive Yokai Exhibition Tokyo
Starting from March 27, 2026, the immersive “Yokai Exhibition Tokyo: Imagination of Japan” will take place in the G1 Building of Terada Warehouse, Shinagawa, Tokyo. The exhibition will run until June 28, 2026, and presale tickets will be available from January 30, 2026.
Produced by Hitohata, Inc. and organized by the Yokai Exhibition Tokyo Executive Committee (comprised of several media organizations including TV Tokyo and the Japan Economic Journal), this exhibition promises a fascinating blend of traditional Yokai art and the latest advancements in digital technology, creating the world’s first immersive digital art museum focused on Japanese Yokai culture.
A Unique Artistic Experience
The exhibition showcases a wide range of works featuring 'Hyakki Yagyo' (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons), 'Hyakumonogatari' (One Hundred Stories), and various legendary creatures like Oni (demons), Tengu, Kappa, and Tsukumogami—all of which have been depicted by various artists from the Edo and Meiji periods.
Visitors can explore the creative representations of Yokai as they come to life through advanced digital techniques like 3D CGI, projection mapping, and holographic displays. The exhibition draws inspiration from Japan's rich mythology and folklore, connecting the uncanny allure of Yokai history with the modern world.
Explore the Depths of Yokai Culture
Working in collaboration with Japan's first antiquarian book museum, the Iwase Bunko in Nishio City, and the Kagawa Yokai Museum in Shodoshima, the exhibition provides in-depth discussions on the cultural significance of Yokai, including their representation in art and literature. This exploration will reveal how these mystical beings have shaped Japanese pop culture today.
Whether you are a Yokai enthusiast or just a casual visitor, the exhibition promises an enjoyable experience filled with learning opportunities.
Immersive Experiences for All Ages
The exhibition presents an engaging, interactive digital art experience, allowing attendees to not only admire Yokai but also interact with them through videos and photography. Immerse yourself in the artwork, doubling as both a viewer and a participant in this magical setting. For seniors and families, designated seating areas are arranged to ensure everyone can comfortably enjoy the experience. The content is designed to be intuitively accessible, with explanations available in both Japanese and English.
