Kiyomasa Tokita: A Passionate Craftsman
In the city of Tsubame in Niigata Prefecture, young Kiyomasa Tokita, 26, dedicates his life to crafting and playing the handpan. Known as a city of craftsmanship, Tsubame is where Tokita established his atelier, Kiyogakusha. Here, he creates handpans while tirelessly promoting their uniqueness and beauty.
Tokita's journey began in Tokyo, where he first encountered the handpan. The instrument's hypnotic tones inspired him to dive deep into its craft. At just 19, Tokita made the bold choice to move to Tsubame as part of a regional revitalization program. Now, he devotes his days to mastering the handpan, encouraging others to experience its soothing melodies.
Upcoming Event in Tokyo: Acoustic Live and Talk Show
On July 5, 2025, The Niigata, a cultural hub in Ginza, Tokyo, will host a special acoustic live concert with Tokita as the guest. Guests can expect an engaging performance, as well as a talk show where Tokita will share insights about his journey, including his reasons for moving to Tsubame, the challenges he faces, and his future aspirations.
Participants will not only experience the mesmerizing sounds of the handpan but will also learn about the cultural richness of Niigata Prefecture. Given the rarity of live handpan performances, this event is a unique opportunity for attendees to connect with this mysterious instrument and its captivating sound.
