Osaka University Basketball Team Faces Challenges

The Osaka University Basketball Team held an activity report for 2024 on April 4, 2025, for their sponsoring company, Ando Parachemy Corporation, a specialized chemical trading company. The report event was attended by Higashiyodogawa Ward in Osaka by various stakeholders, including the company’s president, Michihito Sakuma, an alumnus of the university, faculty members, and the team comprising students and coaches. Ando Parachemy has supported the Osaka University Basketball Team for two years starting from 2023. Despite a disappointing result of being relegated to the second division in the Kansai Student Basketball League for 2024, the company has decided to continue their support into 2025.

Initially, their partnership was set to expire, but relentless appeals from faculty and team members persuaded President Sakuma to extend their sponsorship. He expressed his desire for the students to use this setback as motivation to grow, even going as far as to add meal support in the continuation package. The decision to continue support stems from an appreciation of the difficulties faced by students in balancing their financial situations while pursuing sports, alongside a recognition of the basketball team’s potential.

During the report, team leaders and representatives across all academic years presented the 2024 season’s performance, activities, training regimen revisions, league analysis, and financial reports. The team has declared their commitment to tackle the challenges head-on, aiming for comprehensive victory and promotion back to the first division. Their relationship with sponsors fosters not only athletic proficiency but also a sense of social responsibility among the players.
