Nonoichi City Promotes Health and Dementia Awareness Through Innovative Points System

A New Initiative for Health and Community Support

In a significant effort to enhance the health and well-being of its residents, Nonoichi City has launched a unique initiative in collaboration with Vespla, a Tokyo-based company specializing in health-oriented applications. This initiative, which coincides with September's National Dementia Awareness Month, aims to promote exercise and mental health through a point-based rewards system, encouraging locals to invest in their health actively.

Promoting Health through Small Daily Actions

The Care Prevention Points Program was initiated by Nonoichi City in June 2025, focusing on encouraging exercise habits and raising awareness about health. Residents can earn points by achieving health goals set by the application, such as tracking walking steps and performing brain training exercises. Points are also awarded for participation in officially designated programs within the city. Vespla provides necessary support through app management and points tracking, ensuring residents have a user-friendly way to record their progress at their own pace.

Targeting Seniors for Health Benefits

This exciting initiative targets residents aged 65 and over who reside in Nonoichi City, do not have long-term care certification, and possess a smartphone. Once participants register with the app and are confirmed as eligible, they can start amassing points. For every 1,000 points accumulated, participants can convert these into 1,000 yen worth of PayPay points, making the journey to health both rewarding and enjoyable. Should users face challenges with the app, Vespla's dedicated customer service, as guided by the city, is available to assist.

Learning about Caregiver Support on September 17

As part of their continued awareness efforts, Nonoichi City will host a training session for potential dementia supporters on September 17 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the city hall's Tsubaki Hall. This program seeks to educate citizens on how to provide support to those with dementia within the community. Participation requires prior registration, and this event represents an opportunity to learn more about engaging with vulnerable neighbors and understanding local support systems.

Fostering Community through Accessible Venues

Community meeting spaces play a crucial role in this initiative, providing venues for local seniors to gather, socialize, and engage in health-oriented activities. Nonoichi City features initiatives like the “Nonoichi Otassha Tai So” exercise program, which utilizes rubber exercises to improve physical well-being. By connecting neighborhoods through these venues, residents can build social ties while integrating app-based tracking into their daily routines.

A Call for Media Attention

Vespla invites media representatives to explore the functionalities of the application and the Care Prevention Points program. Opportunities for interviews with users and local government officials can be arranged, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of this health-focused endeavor and its impact on community life.
