Notable Voice Actors to Guide You Through Renoir and Cézanne Exhibition

The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, located in Tokyo's Marunouchi district, is preparing to host an exciting exhibition titled "Renoir x Cézanne: Two Masters Who Shaped Modern Art" from May 29 to September 7, 2025. This unique exhibit will showcase the captivating works of renowned artists Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Cézanne, and it promises to be a feast for both art enthusiasts and the general public.

To enhance the visitor experience, the museum has announced that the audio guide for this exhibition will be narrated by the talented voice actors Wataru Hatano and Yoshimasa Hosoya. Guests can look forward to an enlightening exploration of the lives and legacies of these two artistic giants, guided by the distinct voices of Hatano as Renoir and Hosoya as Cézanne.

A Dramatic Exploration of Contrasts

In his commentary, Wataru Hatano highlighted the stark differences in personality between Renoir and Cézanne. He expressed his eagerness to explore how these contrasting characters despite their differences formed a unique bond through their art. “This exhibition offers a fantastic opportunity for visitors to appreciate art from a new perspective,” he stated, inviting everyone to experience the vibrant world of these two figures who made significant contributions to modern art.

Concurrently, Yoshimasa Hosoya remarked on the profound impact these masters had on each other. “Renoir and Cézanne lived in the same period but had entirely different personalities, influencing one another while pioneering new techniques and perspectives,” he commented. As the voice of Cézanne, Hosoya aims to help exhibition visitors understand the depth of the artworks and the historical context behind them.

Celebrating 15 Years of Artistic Contribution

This exhibition signifies a prominent chapter in the history of the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, which celebrated its 15th anniversary on April 6, 2025. Established in 2010, the museum focuses on modern art from the late 19th to early 20th centuries and holds three major exhibitions annually. The venue is housed in a beautifully restored building designed by Josiah Condor, originally constructed by Mitsubishi in 1894.

The upcoming exhibition will feature approximately 50 works from both artists, including renowned pieces like Renoir's "Girls at the Piano" and Cézanne's "Portrait of the Artist's Son". These works offer a glimpse into their mastery over portraiture, still life, and landscapes, as well as the influences they had on contemporaries like Pablo Picasso.

The "Renoir x Cézanne" exhibition is being organized in collaboration with the Musée de l'Orangerie and the Musée d'Orsay, after touring cities like Milan, Martigny (Switzerland), and Hong Kong. The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum will be the exclusive venue in Japan to host this monumental showcase, allowing visitors a rare opportunity to explore the dawn of modern art through the eyes of these two masters.

With the combination of a spectacular collection of artworks and engaging audio guides narrated by Wataru Hatano and Yoshimasa Hosoya, this exhibition is expected to be a highlight for art lovers and casual visitors alike.
