Vantage Foundation Partners with Grab Indonesia to Empower Women Drivers

In a groundbreaking partnership announced on December 19, 2024, the Vantage Foundation is joining forces with Grab Indonesia to support the Wiramudi Grab program, aimed at empowering women and facilitating their entry as driver-partners across Indonesia. This initiative is a vital step towards addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the workforce, particularly those juggling rigid work hours with family responsibilities.

Launched in April 2024, the Wiramudi Grab program targets the barriers that have traditionally hindered women’s participation in the labor market. Many women struggle to balance their professional aspirations with familial duties, making flexible working hours essential. The campaign, known as Melaju dengan Syantiek, promotes the motto "Progress without Compromise," asserting that women should not have to choose between their careers and personal lives.

By joining Grab as driver-partners, women can set their own schedules, enjoy competitive payment opportunities, and access a broad range of benefits. The Vantage Foundation has played a crucial role in breaking down barriers by assisting women in securing the necessary capital and driving equipment to start their journeys. Surveys conducted by Grab Indonesia revealed that a significant portion of women identified access to capital and equipment as the top obstacles to joining the platform. This partnership has effectively dismantled these barriers, granting financial independence to women and enabling them to better support their families.

Since the inception of this partnership in November 2024, over 1,000 new female driver-partners have registered on the Grab platform. Moreover, many existing female drivers have received additional capital, empowering them to drive and earn once again. Steven Xie, the Executive Director of the Vantage Foundation, stated, "Through this partnership, we are not only providing women with the necessary tools for success but also creating a ripple effect for positive change. We proudly participate in a campaign that promotes progress and empowers women to move forward without compromise."

The impact of the Wiramudi Grab program is further exemplified through testimonials from its participants. A single mother from Bali shares how renting Grab’s electric bikes has allowed her to concentrate on earning without the burden of vehicle costs. Similarly, a driver from Makassar explains how her profession enabled her to care for her family after her husband suffered a stroke. These stories illustrate the significant influence of the program on women’s empowerment and community development.

Grab’s commitment to supporting its driver-partners extends beyond financial aid; it includes comprehensive safety measures to ensure their security during rides. This encompasses features that allow female drivers to express preferences for carrying women passengers only. Additionally, Grab offers training sessions, standardized safety protocols, and maintenance discounts as part of its extensive support network for driver-partners.

Rivana Mezaya, the Director of Digital and Sustainability at Grab Indonesia, stated, "At Grab, economic empowerment—particularly of underserved communities, including women and people with disabilities—is at the core of our mission. By partnering with the Vantage Foundation, we have successfully removed significant barriers and provided women with the capital needed to create revenue opportunities for themselves and their families. Together, we strive to foster an inclusive community where women can thrive both at home and in the workplace."

In summary, the Wiramudi Grab program, which is operational in 18 cities across Indonesia, represents a significant leap toward equitable economic participation for women. It not only provides income-generating opportunities but also makes it easier for women to develop themselves on the Grab platform. Grab continues to advocate for the empowerment of all individuals, aiming for both social impact and financial success, thereby solidifying its role as a leader in Southeast Asia’s digital economy.
