Okayama University Students Shine at NVIDIA Ambassador Workshop with Innovative Research Presentations

Achievements of Okayama University at the NVIDIA Workshop

On August 2, 2025, Takuma Akada, a third-year doctoral student from Okayama University's Graduate School of Natural Science, and Choi Yu Cheol, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Engineering, presented their research at the NVIDIA Student Ambassador-led workshop held at Tokyo University of Technology's Kamata Campus. This significant event gathered students from five universities across Japan, all of whom are participants in the NVIDIA Student Ambassador Program, making it a vibrant space for the exchange of ideas related to AI, robotics, data science, and digital twins.

In the poster session, Akada presented his work titled "Accelerating Kaggle Solutions using RAPIDS and GPGPU Technology." His research aimed at enhancing the speed of data processing for AI applications using NVIDIA's technology. This was not merely a presentation; it was an invitation for collaborative discussions where attendees had many inquiries, resulting in a meaningful dialogue about the future of AI and data science.

Choi presented in the AI session with his project, "Accelerating Fake News Classification using GPUs." His research was particularly relevant in today's digital information landscape, where the propagation of misinformation is a sizeable global challenge. Like Akada, Choi received a multitude of questions and shared valuable insights, indicating the interest generated by their research.

At the conclusion of the workshop, both Akada and Choi, along with their fellow presenters, received official appointment letters from NVIDIA designating them as Student Ambassadors. This milestone marks the first time that students from Okayama University have been appointed to this prestigious role, and both students are excited to pursue further activities under this program.

Reflecting on the experience, Akada expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with students from various fields and gain diverse perspectives on topics pertinent to their studies. He emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary engagement in advancing knowledge and innovation.

Choi echoed similar sentiments, stating that being part of the workshop was an honor. He highlighted how hands-on learning about GPU applications for AI model building and data processing significantly fueled his research ambitions. He plans to leverage the knowledge gathered in future academic endeavors and contribute to addressing social issues.

Both students embody the spirit of Okayama University and its mission as a core, distinctive research university. Their achievements showcase the innovative environment fostered at Okayama University, where students can thrive and engage in cutting-edge research.

As we look forward, the contributions from Takuma Akada and Choi Yu Cheol as NVIDIA Student Ambassadors are highly anticipated. Stay tuned for their continued impact in the fields of AI and technology!
