SK Chemicals Unveils Sustainable Coating Solutions at ECS 2025 in Germany

SK Chemicals recently made its debut at the European Coatings Show (ECS) 2025, held from March 25 to 27 in Nuremberg, Germany. This event is notable for being the largest and most prestigious exhibition in the coatings and paint industry, attracting numerous professionals eager to discuss the latest materials and technologies. With over 1,000 exhibitors and more than 30,000 visitors from around the globe, ECS 2025 provided a platform for presenting innovative pigments, additives, adhesives, and chemical intermediates essential for construction.

In this inaugural participation, SK Chemicals aimed to enhance its marketing efforts beyond major plastic exhibitions like ChinaPlas and NPE, demonstrating its diversified offerings and strengthening its market presence through targeted communication with key customer groups across various markets.

At ECS 2025, SK Chemicals showcased several sustainable materials under the slogan "Sustainable solutions for a responsible tomorrow." Among these flagship products were SKYBON, SKYCHDM, and ECOTRION, which underscore the company's commitment to eco-friendly innovation.

SKYBON, a polyester resin free from BPA, is particularly noteworthy in the coatings niche. Its absence of harmful environmental hormones allows for safe applications in contact with food, making it a rising alternative in can coating technologies. The potential of SKYBON to replace traditional epoxy materials has generated significant interest in the industry.

Also making an impact at the exhibition was SKYCHDM, a crucial feedstock for copolyester, designed to enhance chemical and heat resistance while maintaining UV durability. Its formulation enables it to replace conventional materials used in polyurethane and coating resins, presenting a flexible yet robust solution, thus addressing concerns over BPA detection.

Furthermore, the company highlighted ECOTRION, a 100% plant-based polyol recognized as one of its key bio-sourced materials. Derived from natural sources like PO3G (Polytrimethylene Ether Glycol), ECOTRION excels in producing soft, flexible applications, including spandex and polyurethane, while exhibiting superior elasticity and abrasion resistance when compared to petroleum-based polyols.

As part of its marketing strategy, SK Chemicals intends to refine its approach by actively participating in specialized exhibitions that focus on sustainability across various regions, applications, and industries. Ahn Jae-hyun, CEO of SK Chemicals, emphasized the growing demand for sustainable materials, particularly in Europe, where environmental regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. He expressed the company's commitment to developing a wide range of sustainable solutions that leverage its technological capabilities, saying, "As the demand for sustainable materials surges in various industries, we will continue to innovate and promote eco-friendly products that meet these evolving regulatory landscapes."

In addition to aligning with broader sustainability goals, SK Chemicals is keen on adapting its marketing strategies for each market, application, and industry segment. The company is active not only in the European coatings sector but also participates in three major global plastics trade fairs—K Show, NPE, and ChinaPlas—as well as application-focused exhibitions like the China Beauty Expo and Plastimagen, Latin America's largest plastics trade show.

Through events like ECS 2025, SK Chemicals aspires to solidify its position as a leader in sustainable coatings and establish meaningful connections with industry stakeholders. With an unwavering commitment to innovation, the company anticipates that its advanced materials will pave the way for a more responsible and sustainable future in the coatings industry.
