NorCal Auto Group Strengthens Commitment to Hyundai Hope on Wheels with Generous Donation to Pediatric Cancer Care

In a remarkable act of generosity, NorCal Auto Group, a member of the Potamkin Automotive Group and owner of three Hyundai dealerships in Sacramento, has deepened its support for Hyundai Hope on Wheels with a recent contribution of $100,000 to the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to improve pediatric cancer research and care in Northern California.

A Commitment to Pediatric Care

Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a nationally recognized initiative dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research. Supported by Hyundai Motor America and a network of over 855 dealerships across the United States, the program has raised more than $300 million since its launch in 1998, aiding in the improvement of outcomes for over 40,000 children afflicted with cancer. According to statistics, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 36 minutes in the United States.

The Journey of Support

On September 9, NorCal Auto Group participated in a check presentation ceremony at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco, which was hosted by Hyundai Motor America. This event served as a platform to celebrate the ongoing support of Hyundai towards pediatric cancer research and care while also expressing gratitude for the contributions from its dealer community.

Earlier in the year, NorCal Auto Group's dealerships—Roseville Hyundai, Folsom Lake Hyundai, and Elk Grove Hyundai—pledged $50,000 directly to UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Hyundai Hope on Wheels graciously matched this donation, resulting in a total impact of $100,000 dedicated to enhancing pediatric cancer resources and treatment options.

The donation was commemorated during a presentation organized at a Sacramento Republic FC match on May 2, showcasing the dealership's dedication to community involvement and support in meaningful initiatives.

Symbolism of Hope

A key component of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program is the Handprint Ceremony, where children who are currently undergoing treatment place their handprints on Hyundai vehicles. This act serves as a powerful symbol of hope and resilience against the struggles of cancer. During the Sacramento Handprint Ceremony at UC Davis in July, children shared their stories and left their unique handprints as a testament to their strength and courage.

Continuing the Legacy

The 2026 campaign coincides with the launch of "The Mark of a Warrior," an initiative that revitalizes the handprint symbol as a mark of strength and perseverance in the face of adversity. This year, Hyundai Hope on Wheels aims to conduct approximately 42 handprint ceremonies, check presentations, and Warrior Gown deliveries, complemented by over 100 community blood drives aimed at supporting children battling cancer.

The Potamkin family's involvement with Hyundai Hope on Wheels dates back to its inception. Since 1998, the Potamkin dealerships have contributed over $4 million towards this noble cause, reflecting a multi-generational commitment to philanthropy spanning various fields including science, wellness, arts and culture, education, and environmental initiatives.

Cole Potamkin, CEO of Potamkin Auto Group, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to such a significant cause: "Supporting pediatric cancer research and care is one of the most meaningful ways we can give back to our local communities."
