SEG Solar Expands Footprint with New 4 GW Factory in Houston
SEG Solar, one of the leading U.S. solar module manufacturers, has recently declared its intentions to build a new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, capable of producing 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules. This initiative is part of a strategic expansion that will nearly double SEG's annual production capacity from its existing Texas plant, bringing their total output to approximately 6 GW.
The new facility will span nearly 500,000 square feet and represents a significant investment of over $200 million. This endeavor is also projected to create about 800 new jobs in the area, reaffirming SEG's commitment to local economic growth and the renewable energy sector. As highlighted by Timothy Johnson, SEG's Vice President of Operations, this expansion not only enhances their production capabilities but also aligns with ongoing technological innovations in solar energy.
This factory will play a pivotal role in establishing SEG as one of the largest U.S.-based manufacturers committed to producing 100% American-made solar modules. The modules produced in this facility will allow for improved product quality, enhanced traceability, and quicker delivery times, which are crucial for providing added value to both partners and customers.
The opening of this facility is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, which aligns with SEG's broader strategy that emphasizes long-term localization of production. This approach is designed to mitigate supply chain risks and respond effectively to policy and trade dynamics in the renewable energy sector.
In addition to the Texas expansion, SEG is working on another significant initiative involving the development of a 5 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Indonesia. This facility is expected to enhance SEG's ability to provide fully integrated supply chains including ingots, wafers, and cells, a critical factor in today’s rapidly evolving solar industry.
As of the end of 2025, SEG has shipped over 7.5 GW of solar modules globally and boasts a production capacity of 6.5 GW—figures that reflect the company's rapid growth since its founding in 2021. They have also been certified by independent third parties as a non-PVC supplier for compliance with certain regulations, further solidifying their reputation in the marketplace.
The new Houston factory signifies a major milestone for SEG Solar, reinforcing its mission of supplying reliable and cost-effective solar modules to a variety of markets including utility, commercial, and residential sectors. The integration of next-generation technologies in the manufacturing process, such as heterojunction technology (HJT), is planned to keep pace with industry advancements and consumer needs.
