Clarios Secures Landmark Contract for Supercapacitors

In a noteworthy development, Clarios, a trailblazer in the realm of low-voltage battery technology, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a contract with a major automotive manufacturer for the supply of advanced supercapacitors in 12V and 48V architectures. This agreement signifies not just a business transaction but a strong endorsement of Clarios' innovative technology in the automotive industry.

These supercapacitors are engineered to store and deliver substantial amounts of energy, making them ideal for functions such as steer-by-wire systems. They effectively minimize vehicle weight while ensuring reliable power supply under all driving conditions. This feature is particularly critical for enhancing structural safety, as these capacitors can deliver short bursts of energy precisely when required, ensuring that vehicles maintain optimal control during high-speed maneuvers, especially in curves.

The contract highlights Clarios’ commitment to innovation and sustainability. Federico Morales-Zimmermann, Vice President General Manager at Clarios, emphasized the role of their technology in helping automotive manufacturers meet increasing demands in performance, safety, and sustainability. He noted that with the rise of modern and increasingly software-defined vehicles, there is an urgent need for reliable and efficient power solutions, a demand that Clarios is well-equipped to meet.

By integrating these supercapacitors with AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries, Clarios enhances the entire system architecture of vehicles, stabilizing power supply, improving fuel efficiency through regenerative braking, and providing necessary redundancy for safety.

This contract marks a significant step forward in Clarios' journey towards a sustainable and innovative future in mobility. With around 18,000 employees globally and operations in over 100 countries, Clarios stands at the forefront of advanced low-voltage battery technologies. Their batteries and intelligent solutions power nearly all vehicle types, with one in three vehicles on the road today housing their products.

Clarios is not just focused on product development but is also deeply committed to sustainability practices. The company recycles approximately 8,000 batteries hourly across its global network and has pledged that 100% of its products will be recyclable in the future. This dedication positions Clarios as a leader not merely in battery technology, but also in sustainable practices within the automotive industry.

As Clarios continues to shape the landscape of low-voltage power solutions, this contract signals a promising trend towards enhanced vehicle performance, safety, and sustainability — critical components of the automotive industry's future.
