Hibiya Kadan Unveils Eco-Friendly Floral Arrangement for Environment Day

Launching a New Era of Eco-Friendly Floral Arrangements

On June 5th, in celebration of Environmental Day, Hibiya Kadan announced its latest eco-friendly floral arrangement, Souffle Fleur. This innovative product features a groundbreaking design aimed at reducing reliance on petroleum-based resources. The arrangement will be available for early sale at the Sustainable Challenge Shop pop-up located in Hibiya-Kadan Style, Shibuya Hikarie ShinQs, from May 30 to June 12, 2025.

About Souffle Fleur

The Souffle Fleur arrangement is a collaboration between Hibiya Kadan and its subsidiary, Frenet Hibiya, which developed a transparent flower vase made from 95% corn-derived biomass plastic. The design emphasizes sustainability by eliminating the use of water-absorbing sponges, typically made from petroleum-based materials, and instead using natural materials like Himuro-sugi (Japanese cedar) as a base.

Souffle Fleur showcases a unique blend of traditional and contemporary flower arranging techniques. Inspired by the historical use of Himuro-sugi and other natural elements before sponges became commonplace, Hibiya Kadan's experienced staff engaged in numerous trials to ensure optimal floral preservation and ease of assembly. This thoughtful approach combines ancient wisdom with modern knowledge to create a fresh, aromatic, and visually appealing arrangement.

The arrangement not only captivates with its allure but also delivers a woody, refreshing scent thanks to the Himuro-sugi. Each flower used in the Souffle Fleur is sourced from producers participating in the MPS certification program and is managed under the Relay Freshness certification, ensuring quality and sustainability. They favor flowers grown in open fields rather than in greenhouses to reduce CO2 emissions.

Sustainable Challenge Shop

The Sustainable Challenge Shop marks its third iteration, following previous events held on Earth Day. Hibiya Kadan pursues the goal of minimizing its environmental impact through various business activities, and this pop-up offers a platform to present their eco-friendly floral arrangements.

During the event, Hibiya Kadan will launch additional flower products at various locations nationwide, introducing a variety of flowers sourced sustainably, including roses, zinnias, sunflowers, and more. This initiative emphasizes the commitment to environmental responsibility that Hibiya Kadan upholds across its retail operations.

Workshops and Interactive Experiences

In conjunction with the pop-up shop, Hibiya Kadan will host workshops on creating original herbariums, where participants can build their own floral art using secondary flowers that meet the criteria for being too imperfect for commercial sale. This initiative not only creatively recycles flowers that would otherwise go unused but also enriches the community's understanding and appreciation for sustainable practices in floral design.

Scheduled for June 7 and 8, these workshops will allow six participants per session to explore their creativity for a modest fee, fostering connections with nature and art. Pre-registration is available via the store or by phone.

Conclusion

Hibiya Kadan's efforts underscore a commitment to a sustainable future through floral art. The launch of Souffle Fleur at the Sustainable Challenge Shop invites customers to step into a new era of environmental consciousness in the floral industry. With each arrangement sold, Hibiya Kadan hopes to inspire individuals to reflect on their environmental impact while enjoying nature's beauty, contributing positively to society and the planet as a whole.
