Celebrating Young Talent: Tokyo Fashion Award Exhibition in Shibuya and Omotesando

Tokyo Fashion Awards Exhibition: A Showcase of Emerging Talent

This summer, a unique exhibition will take place in the heart of Tokyo, spotlighting the future of Japanese fashion. The exhibition features the work of 14 outstanding designers who have recently been honored at the prestigious Tokyo Fashion Awards. Hosted at two iconic venues—the Tokyu Plaza Shibuya and the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Omokado—the event is set to run from June 17 to July 7, 2025.

Discovering New Talent

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched the Next Fashion Designer of Tokyo (NFDT) and the Sustainable Fashion Design Award (SFDA) initiatives to discover and nurture budding fashion talent. These competitions are aimed at students and amateur designers residing or studying in Tokyo, reflecting the city's rich and diverse fashion landscape.

During the final judging event held in March 2025, an esteemed panel of judges, including renowned designers from Paris Fashion Week, scrutinized the submissions and selected the winning entries based on creativity and innovation. The exhibition will showcase these award-winning pieces, providing an exceptional platform for these rising stars to present their talent to the public.

Exhibition Features

Visitors can expect to see a range of avant-garde and uniquely crafted designs that embody the fresh sensibilities and innovative visions of young Japanese designers. Each piece will be accompanied by an introduction board detailing the design concepts, which will allow attendees to gain deeper insights into the creative processes behind the works. The exhibition aims to create an intimate connection between the designers and the audience, fostering a greater appreciation for the art of fashion.

Moreover, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is committed to elevating local designers to global stages by providing support for brand establishment and showcasing their works in international arenas like Paris.

Call for 2026 Entries

For aspiring designers, there’s still an opportunity to participate in the NFDT and SFDA competitions for 2026. Submissions, which are open until July 14, 2025, welcome applicants from various creative disciplines—not limited to fashion, but also including art, digital media, and film. This initiative encourages innovation and diversity in the fashion industry.

In addition to the two categories in the NFDT—Free Theme and Inclusive Design—the SFDA will continue to promote sustainable practices with its Wear and Fashion Goods categories.

Conclusion

As Tokyo positions itself alongside global fashion capitals, the Tokyo Fashion Awards represent a vital stepping stone for the next generation of talent. This exhibition is not merely an event; it is a celebration of creativity, dedication, and the vibrant potential of Japan’s fashion industry.
