HCLTech Achieves ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Certification, Showcasing Leadership in Responsible AI

HCLTech Achieves ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Certification

HCLTech, a global leader in technology services, has recently achieved the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, a significant milestone that emphasizes its commitment to responsible artificial intelligence (AI) governance and implementation. This certification affirms HCLTech's capabilities to assist enterprises in scaling AI adoption while ensuring robust governance, risk management, and operational rigor.

The certification was issued by Schellman Compliance, LLC, a recognized certification body accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). It validates HCLTech's comprehensive framework for the development, implementation, and governance of AI within the defined scope of its AI Management System (AIMS).

The AIMS certification encompasses every phase of the AI lifecycle, providing support for AI-enabled services and platforms, including HCLTech’s flagship AI Force platform, software engineering, IT operations, and business process services. This enables HCLTech to assist organizations not only in adopting AI but also in consistently governing it across various systems, functions, and geographical regions. The AIMS framework aligns with evolving global regulatory requirements, such as the EU AI Act.

ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is recognized as the world's first international standard for AI management systems, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It establishes a comprehensive framework for managing AI throughout the system lifecycle, addressing risk management, transparency, fairness, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Avani Desai, CEO of Schellman, noted, "The ISO 42001 certification carries distinct significance for an organization of HCLTech’s size and complexity. Rather than merely documenting policies, it entails integrating responsible AI governance into the day-to-day operations of the company. As organizations transition from experimenting with AI to enterprise adoption, demonstrating disciplined governance will be a key differentiating factor. HCLTech exemplifies how to achieve this."

Vijay Guntur, the Chief Technology Officer and Head of Ecosystems at HCLTech, stated, “Achieving certification under ISO/IEC 42001:2023 reflects HCLTech’s commitment to the responsible development and deployment of AI at scale. As businesses accelerate their AI transitions, they seek partners who blend innovation with rigor and trust. This certification provides independent assurance that AI is managed responsibly via our certified AI Management System, strengthening our ability to help clients implement AI confidently."

With this accomplishment, HCLTech joins an elite group of organizations that have independently validated capabilities for managing large-scale AI deployment, distinguished by the breadth and depth of its certified reach across the entire enterprise AI value chain.
