SBI Prism Small Short Insurance Co., based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture and led by CEO Masaru Endo, has unveiled its latest rankings for popular dog breeds, cat breeds, small animals, and birds. The rankings are based on new contract data gathered from April 2025 to March 2026, providing an insightful glimpse into current pet preferences.

Dog Breed Rankings

For the second consecutive year, the mixed-breed small dog has secured the top position, reaffirming its unwavering popularity. Dogs like Chiwax and Malpoo have captivated many with their adorable features, continuing to attract a growing fan base. Meanwhile, classic favorites like Toy Poodles and Chihuahuas maintain their ranks, demonstrating stable and enduring support from pet owners. Notably, the Pomeranian has made a remarkable leap to fourth place this year.

Rankings from 11 to 30

Outside of the top ten, larger breeds such as Golden Retrievers and Border Collies have emerged prominently in the 11 to 30 rankings. Additionally, short-nosed breeds, including Pugs and Boston Terriers, are also well represented. Their unique and cute appearances have clearly charmed numerous pet owners, making a strong impression in the rankings.

Cat Breed Rankings

In the feline category, mixed-breed cats have once again claimed the top spot. Their charm lies in their diverse appearances, with a wide array of colors and patterns that resonate with many pet lovers. The lineup in the top ten remains consistent with last year, but it will be intriguing to see if these staple breeds maintain their popularity or if new contenders rise to the occasion in the future.

Rankings from 11 to 30

While the favorites at the top remain steady, substantial changes have occurred in the 11 to 30 rankings, with three cat breeds making their way into this year's list after being absent last year. Notably, the Tonkinese is gaining popularity with its Siamese-like elegance—these enchanting kitties are bound to win hearts across the nation.

Small Animal Rankings

The rabbit has again triumphed, claiming the top position and demonstrating overwhelming popularity. The breed's cute long ears and fluffy coats undoubtedly contribute to this ongoing success. This year also marks the entry of the meerkat into the ranks, following its eligibility for coverage under the pet insurance policy introduced last April. Their charming upright posture while basking in the sun is a sight to behold, securing their spot among the favorites.

Bird Rankings

In an unexpected twist, the bird category has seen all top five positions remain unchanged from last year. This consistency underscores the enduring love for these familiar feathered friends who have captivated pet enthusiasts over the years.
