Canadian Solar Unveils TOPCon 3.0 Module with Enhanced Efficiency and Power Output

Canadian Solar Unveils the TOPCon 3.0 High-Power-Density Module

Canadian Solar Inc., a leader in solar technology, announced the launch of its innovative TOPCon 3.0 high-power-density photovoltaic module. Designed for both utility-scale solar plants and commercial and industrial (CI) applications, this cutting-edge module boasts a power output of up to 670 Wp and an impressive conversion efficiency of 24.8%, making it a strong contender in the solar market.

Set to commence global shipments in August 2026, the TOPCon 3.0 module not only enhances energy yields but also lowers the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), which is critical for improving project economics and ensuring more favorable long-term returns. One of the standout features of the TOPCon 3.0 is its higher power density. The module utilizes a multi-cut technology based on large-format rectangular cells, which maximizes light utilization while maintaining a standard size of 2382 × 1134 × 30 mm. This ensures ease of logistics and smooth integration into existing solar systems.

The module also offers significant bifacial advantages thanks to its cell poly-patterned technology and optimized backside design that enhances bifaciality up to 90%. This feature allows for an additional system-level energy gain of 0.4%-0.5%, further boosting the overall efficiency of solar projects.

Moreover, the advanced passivation technologies applied to the module's edges and surface have successfully lowered the PV module's temperature coefficient to -0.26%/°C. This reduction means improved performance in high-temperature environments, a crucial factor for regions that experience extreme heat.

In terms of reliability, Canadian Solar has engineered the TOPCon 3.0 to deliver exceptional output over its lifespan. With a degradation rate of ≤1% in the first year, followed by a mere 0.35% each subsequent year, the module guarantees over 88.85% output after 30 years, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Recognizing the varying demands of different climates, the TOPCon 3.0 module can be equipped with optional features such as anti-glare glass, an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled junction box, and frames made from materials like steel or composite to best suit high-load, corrosive, or dusty conditions. These adaptations enhance the safety and visibility of PV systems and make them suitable for diverse environments.

Dr. Shawn Qu, the Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of Canadian Solar, emphasized the company's commitment to advancing photovoltaic technology. He stated, “With the launch of our TOPCon 3.0 module, we are proud to provide our partners with a product that not only leads to up to a 1.6% higher energy yield but also reduces LCOE by up to 1.4%. This translates into a stronger lifecycle value and more predictable long-term returns for our global partners.”

The unveiling of the TOPCon 3.0 module is set to be a highlight at Intersolar Europe, taking place from June 23 to 25 in Munich, Germany. Attendees can visit Canadian Solar's booth B2.250 to learn more about this next-generation high-efficiency photovoltaic technology and its potential applications.
