Expansion of CHARGESPOT Mobile Battery Service

Sendai's Innovative Step Towards Convenience
In a bid to enhance usability and support in emergencies, Sendai City's underground transportation system is stepping up its game. The City Bureau of Transportation, in collaboration with INFORICH, the operator of the leading mobile battery sharing service, CHARGESPOT™, is set to install battery rental stations at 23 subway stations by March 2026. This project aims to alleviate the charging anxiety experienced by subway users and ensure access to crucial information during disasters and emergencies.

Subway System Overview
The Sendai Subway, consisting of the Namboku Line and the Tozai Line, plays a crucial role in the daily lives of commuters, students, and tourists. As smartphone usage has surged, so has the demand for charging facilities within the subway premises. Additionally, the increasing frequency of emergencies such as natural disasters and power outages has heightened the need for reliable communication channels for passengers. This context has led to the significant expansion of the CHARGESPOT service stations across the subway network.

Installations Planned
The roll-out of CHARGESPOT units will begin in January 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of March the same year. The installations will be distributed across various stations on both subway lines, covering essential routes for the city’s residents and visitors. The following stations will feature the new charging facilities:
  • - Namboku Line: Izumi Chuo, Yayoitume, Kita Sendai, Kita Yondanmachi, Kotodai Koen, Hirose Dori, Gojo, Atagobashi, Kawaramachi, Nagamachi 1-chome, Nagamachi, Nagamachi Minami, and Tomizawa.
  • - Tozai Line: Yagiyama Zoological Park, Kawauchi, International Center, Aoba-dori Ichibanchou, Sendai, Miyagino Dori, Renbo,卸町, Rokuchonome, and Arai.

The installations will include a total of 21 systems: 12 units with 10 slots and 9 units with 20 slots, ensuring that users have ample access to mobile charging. Though the subway consists of 30 stations, this initiative will focus on 23 designated stations for the CHARGESPOT installation.
