Shrub Oak International School's Thanksgiving Donation to Support Local Community Needs

Giving Back to the Community This Thanksgiving

In a heartwarming tradition of community support, Shrub Oak International School has made a generous donation to St. Mary's Food Pantry in Mohegan Lake, New York, providing 50 turkeys alongside essential Thanksgiving essentials, including canned vegetables, stuffing, and gravy. This initiative, initiated by Founder and CEO Michael Koffler, reinforces the school's commitment to give back to the community that plays a crucial role in nurturing its students.

A Community-Oriented Initiative

This donation is not a new venture for Shrub Oak International School, but rather a continuation of a cherished tradition. Several years ago, Koffler established this initiative as an expression of gratitude towards the local community that has unconditionally supported the school and its students over the years. "Sharing, caring, and giving from our hearts is what Shrub Oak embodies daily," Koffler stated. He emphasized how the school’s donations represent their appreciation for the community as well as their commitment to assist neighbors in need during challenging times, particularly when many families face food insecurity.

Students Engaged in Philanthropy

One striking feature of this project is the active participation of students throughout the donation process. They engage in planning, shopping, and eventually delivering the food to the food pantry. This hands-on experience not only equips students with essential life skills but also enhances their communication, social skills, and flexibility. “Our students truly enjoy participating in this project,” noted Nancy Tritsch, the school’s Director of Education. “It’s a powerful opportunity for them to develop practical skills while experiencing the joy of giving and understanding the profound importance of helping others.”

Strengthening Community Bonds

The delivery of the donation was made possible through the collaboration of local businesses. DeCicco Family Markets in Jefferson Valley extended their support by offering a generous discount, ensuring the school could provide assistance for as many local families as possible. The store’s staff played a vital role in assisting the students during their shopping experience, fostering a rewarding and engaging environment for all involved.
