DeTect Delivers Advanced Bird Detection Radar to Hanseo University in South Korea
DeTect, Inc., a leader in radar technology, has recently provided the MERLIN™ True3D™ bird detection radar system to Hanseo University's flight training center in South Korea. This advanced radar system, which is widely recognized for its reliability and effectiveness, will play a crucial role in enhancing aviation safety during the pilot training process.
Scheduled for installation by mid-February 2025, the MERLIN True3D radar will be operational around the clock, providing real-time data on bird and drone movements near the airport's runway. This initiative is part of DeTect's commitment to improving safety measures at airports and aerodromes, particularly during training operations. The system will allow air traffic controllers and aerodrome managers to monitor aerial activities closely and receive timely alerts about potential collision risks.
According to Gary Andrews, CEO of DeTect, "The system will be installed adjacent to the runway, ensuring a constant flow of operational information about aircraft, birds, and drones 24/7. With a detection range of up to 11 kilometers, it will deliver real-time alerts to the air traffic control tower and various user locations within the aerodrome."
The partnership between DeTect and Hanseo University dates back to June 2024 when both entities agreed to implement the MERLIN radar system to bolster flight safety initiatives at the training center, located in Taean. The integration of this technology signifies a major advancement in safety protocols during flight operations, ensuring that trainee pilots can focus on honing their skills without the added worry of wildlife hazards.
The MERLIN True3D bird detection radar is not only the most adopted system for managing bird collision risks at commercial airports but also at military airfields. DeTect has an impressive track record since its establishment in 2003, delivering over 1,100 systems across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Their radar solutions, including the HARRIER™ security and surveillance systems and the DroneWatcher™ for unmanned aerial systems, cater to a wide range of sectors requiring security and monitoring on airfields and wind farms.
By equipping Hanseo University with this state-of-the-art radar system, DeTect aims to set a new standard for air safety training, enabling pilots to practice in a monitored and secure environment. This development not only showcases DeTect's dedication to innovation and safety in the aviation industry but also highlights the crucial role of technology in contemporary pilot training programs.
As the aviation industry continues to evolve, advancements like the MERLIN True3D radar will remain indispensable for enhancing safety protocols and mitigating risks in the ever-busy sky. The cooperative efforts between educational institutions and technological innovators such as DeTect symbolize the future of safer, more efficient aviation training worldwide.
