Midea Showcases R290 Leadership and Sustainable Innovations at IFA 2026
Midea, a leading global manufacturer of air conditioning systems, recently made waves at IFA 2026 in Berlin, where they revealed their latest environmentally friendly HVAC solutions. Positioned firmly as a trailblazer in the use of R290 refrigerant, Midea aims to underscore the importance of sustainable technology in combating climate change.
Midea has held the title of the world's frontrunner in R290-based air conditioning for 16 consecutive years, setting industry standards with their advanced compressor safety and performance technologies. R290 is known for its extremely low global warming potential, nearly zero CO2 emissions, and the absence of harmful PFAS chemicals. Notably, it offers about a 10% increase in energy efficiency compared to traditional refrigerants.
At their exhibition booth, visitors were treated to a clear model that demonstrated the inner workings of their systems, highlighting how eco-friendliness and performance can coexist seamlessly. Since 2018, Midea has sold over 10 million R290 air conditioners, contributing to a remarkable reduction of approximately 5.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions, which is roughly comparable to the carbon absorption capabilities of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest.
Among their innovative solutions on display was the H-Pack, a next-generation indoor heat pump designed specifically for European markets by Midea's R&D team. Its compact architecture eliminates the need for an external unit, addressing issues such as outdoor noise, installation space limitations, and building restrictions. The system’s user-friendly design simplifies maintenance while remote diagnostics allow tech specialists to troubleshoot issues without needing an on-site visit, thus minimizing maintenance costs. The H-Pack can operate in both hybrid and fully electric heating modes, offering enhanced flexibility and efficiency for European households.
Midea also showcased the PortaSplit in a realistic European living environment setting. Renowned for its quick setup, superior performance, and low noise levels, the PortaSplit allows users to bypass expensive installation procedures while ensuring indoor comfort. This product is slated to adopt R290 refrigerant by 2027.
VitaBreeze: A New Era of Adaptive Comfort
Recently launched, Midea’s VitaBreeze was awarded the IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award, emphasizing its progressive design in airflow management. Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the accolade during the event.
Equipped with the innovative ‘AirGrid’ feature, VitaBreeze visually maps indoor layouts, enabling users to control air distribution via their smartphones. Its presence detection technology allows airflow to follow or avoid occupants according to individual preferences, while its wide-angle air distribution ensures consistent comfort throughout the room. The cutting-edge Breezeless Pro technology broadens airflow coverage by 30%, delivering a gentle cooling effect without compromising performance.
Additional features of VitaBreeze include the precise humidity control 'ClimaBalance' and ECOMASTER 2.0, which uses predictive energy optimization to enhance comfort while reducing energy consumption.
Intelligent Energy Management for Greener Homes
Midea also presented the Raynor Pro, their flagship heating solution designed for northern climates. Capable of functioning in temperatures as low as -40°C, the Raynor maintains 100% heating capacity at -25°C, achieving A+++ energy efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling. This product was further recognized with the iF Design Award for its striking design crafted by Midea's design team in Milan.
Completing the showcase was MHELIOS, Midea’s home energy management solution, displayed in a typical residential setting. This system optimizes energy storage and consumption based on dynamic electricity pricing, contributing to cost savings and network stability. In compliance with Section 14A EnWG in Germany, MHELIOS connects EV chargers, heat pumps, solar systems, and battery storage to maximize the use of clean energy while ensuring home comfort.
