HFR Mobile Launches First Private 5G Public Safety Network in Korea

In a significant advancement for public safety, HFR Mobile has deployed Korea’s first-ever Private 5G network designed specifically for local government use. This groundbreaking initiative took shape under the auspices of the National Information Society Agency (NIA) and has benefited from the collaboration of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport along with Gimcheon City. HFR Mobile played a pivotal role as a Private 5G solution provider within the UbiTec consortium during this project.

The deployment process involved the establishment of a 5G core and base stations at the Gimcheon City Integrated Control Center. Utilizing the self-communication infrastructure of Gimcheon City, HFR Mobile provided extensive Private 5G coverage through the installation of a radio unit in Ansan Park, located within Gimcheon Innovation City.

This new Private 5G network offers coverage that surpasses traditional Wi-Fi capabilities, enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness. One of the key components of this network is an AI-driven CCTV system strategically installed in Ansan Park. This system aims to bolster public safety by minimizing accidents, promoting increased usage of the park, and lowering crime rates. Additionally, real-time monitoring and response mechanisms have been put in place to oversee park facilities and address potential hazards, thereby ensuring a more secure environment for park visitors.

The strengths of 5G technology, particularly its high-capacity data transmission and low latency, are crucial for this project. They not only facilitate immediate communication and response but also allow for future expansion into additional public areas throughout Gimcheon City. Future enhancements are set to include critical applications such as fire detection services via CCTV systems, which will considerably augment the region's emergency response capabilities.

Emphasizing the importance of this innovative project, Hae-Kwan Jung, the Head of Sales and Business Development at HFR Mobile, remarked, "The deployment of a Private 5G network at Ansan Park marks the first-ever public safety service of its kind among local governments. Moving forward, we aim to expand this model nationwide, supporting the digital transformation of municipalities through smart public safety solutions. With this pioneering project, HFR Mobile is positioning itself as a key player in advancing smart city infrastructure, paving the way for safer and more connected public spaces across Korea."
