Forums Highlighting Cooperation Between China and Central Asia



On June 22, 2025, Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, hosted the China-Central Asia Cooperation Development Forum along with the Third Silk Road International Communication Forum. This event saw the participation of approximately 240 delegates from various sectors, including media, think tanks, cultural institutions, and business sectors from China and Central Asia.

The forums served as vital platforms promoting dialogue and cultural exchange, focusing on the enhancement of Silk Road cooperation. The opening ceremony featured a congratulatory message from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which highlighted the successful completion of the second China-Central Asia Summit that had recently occurred with participation from President Xi Jinping and the leaders of five Central Asian nations. Tokayev expressed optimism that these forums would foster deeper exchanges and cooperative efforts across various fields.

In his keynote address, Fu Hua, the president of Xinhua News Agency, underscored the importance of the China-Central Asia partnership. Fu indicated that President Xi prioritizes the collaborative development of the region, stressing that a thriving, interconnected Central Asia holds global significance. He articulated Xinhua’s commitment to collaborating with Central Asian media and think tanks to bolster media exchanges and cooperation in news reporting, technology, and joint research initiatives.

Qiu Xiaoqi, vice president of the China Public Diplomacy Association, remarked that the establishment of the China-Central Asia forum represents a fresh chapter of collaboration among six countries’ media outlets and cultural institutions. He placed emphasis on effectively communicating the narratives surrounding China-Central Asia cooperation and the modernization efforts within the Global South.

Tursunali Kuziev, the first deputy director of Uzbekistan's Cultural Heritage Agency, reiterated the importance of close relationships with neighbors, resonating with the saying, "a close neighbor is better than a distant relative." He expressed eagerness for the forum to act as an efficient avenue for exchanging ideas and fostering innovative thought among participants.
