Switchblade Flying Car Unveiled at Sand & Fun Airshow 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Switchblade Flying Car Debuts at Sand & Fun Airshow 2025

The Sand & Fun Airshow 2025, known as the largest general aviation event in the Middle East, took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, showcasing innovations in aviation with a notable exhibitor: Samson Sky. The company attracted attention with its Switchblade Flying Car, a vehicle that successfully combines driving and flying capabilities.

During the event, Sam Bousfield, the CEO of Samson Sky and the vehicle's designer, engaged in discussions with His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz about the potential impact of the Switchblade on Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 initiative. This plan aims to turn the nation into a global hub for tourism and international business by enhancing connectivity across over 250 destinations.

The Sand & Fun Airshow hosted a variety of events over five days, attracting approximately 120,000 visitors from more than 90 countries. The event served not only as an exhibition but also as a networking opportunity for aviation lovers, industry leaders, and families, showcasing over 100 spectacular airshows.

Prince Sultan's visit to the Switchblade exhibit underscores its significance as a vehicle suited for both residents and tourists in Saudi Arabia. The Switchblade can transform from a driving mode to a flying mode in just three minutes with the push of a button, fitting conveniently in a standard garage. Sam Bousfield expressed his excitement about the vehicle’s potential to facilitate regional travel, thereby contributing to the burgeoning tourism sector in the Kingdom.

On the opening day of the airshow, a vital Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Samson Sky and the Saudi Aviation Club (SAC), further solidifying the presence of the Switchblade in Saudi Arabia. This agreement includes provisions for training Switchblade mechanics and pilots, obtaining regulatory approval for the vehicle's use, and leveraging SAC facilities for demonstrations and sales. An essential aspect of the MoU is providing access to the SAC airport system for owners of the Switchblade throughout the country.

The Saudi Aviation Club, an independent nonprofit, is dedicated to promoting aviation activities in the Kingdom. It aims to inspire a passion for flying and serves as the official representative of Saudi Arabia within various international aviation organizations.

The Switchblade itself is a hybrid-electric vehicle that delivers impressive sports car-like performance, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 125 mph. With a cruising speed estimated at 160 mph, it boasts a range of over 500 miles and is designed to operate on standard auto fuel. In addition, while in driving mode, all flying surfaces are safely enclosed within the vehicle, enhancing safety and compliance.

Samson Sky has reported nearly 2,500 reservations across more than 50 countries, translating to projected future revenue exceeding $500 million USD. The company plans to eventually roll out commercially certified Switchblades, aiming to establish an economical Express Courier Service with funding from accredited investors worldwide. The anticipated price for the Switchblade is around $200,000 USD.
