Join Starlight Children's Foundation for a Joyful Play Week Dedicated to Kids in Hospitals

Celebrating Play Week with Starlight Children's Foundation

The Starlight Children's Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of its beloved campaign, Play Week, which runs from June 1 to June 15. This year's initiative is poised to deliver even more joy and comfort to hospitalized children through a series of engaging activities and community events.

Importance of Play in Healing

Play is not just an enjoyable pastime for children; it plays a crucial role in the recovery and healing process for those facing serious medical conditions. In hospitals, play can significantly alleviate the anxiety and fears children experience. It helps them cope and promotes a sense of normalcy during tough times. Studies have shown that integrating play into pediatric care can even reduce the need for sedation, leading to better long-term health outcomes.

Play Week draws attention to this vital aspect of care by rallying communities, individuals, and families to participate in a variety of activities that engage and uplift children who are enduring medical challenges. Celebrating around the International Day of Play on June 11, this campaign is dedicated to promoting the right of every child to play, recognized officially by the United Nations.

A Unique Virtual Movement Challenge

Among the highlights this year is the inaugural Walk, Run, Play Challenge, beginning on June 5. This 10-day virtual event invites participants across the country to engage in physical activities, collectively aiming to log 50,000 steps. Through this initiative, participants can raise funds that provide enriching and joyful moments for 50,000 hospitalized children. Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children's Foundation, emphasized the essence of community involvement:
“As a society, we are already juggling so much, but you still want to show up for others and teach your kids what truly matters. This challenge is about making what you're already doing, walking, running, playing, mean something.”

The excitement doesn’t end there! Starlight has partnered with Red Games, introducing creative play apps like Crayola Create and Play and Scribble Scrubbie Pets to bring joy to kids in hospitals. These apps complement hospital visits, ensuring that play is an integral part of a child's hospital experience.

Celebrity Support and Community Engagement

In addition to community players, this year’s initiative has garnered support from a range of celebrities and influencers. Well-known figures like World Jump Rope Champion Tori Boggs, actor Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper are stepping up to inspire and engage their followers in this rewarding cause. Their involvement is set to encourage more participants to join in the movement to deliver happiness to children in need.

Furthermore, during Play Week, Stream for Starlight will be activated, harnessing the power of streaming communities to raise funds for Starlight’s mission. People can contribute by streaming their favorite activities, whether it be gaming, crafting, or other passions while supporting a crucial cause.

For those interested in taking part, there’s still time to get involved!
