Indus Capital Partners Enhances Team with Makio Inui Joining as Partner

Indus Capital Partners Strengthens Operations with New Leadership

Indus Capital Partners, a prominent investment firm dedicated to Asia Pacific equities, has made a significant advancement in its leadership team by appointing Makio Inui as a Partner and Representative in their Tokyo office. This strategic move, effective from October 1, 2025, is set to enhance the firm's engagement with its Japanese portfolio companies and improve corporate governance and long-term value creation strategies.

Mr. Inui, who previously served as the Managing Partner and Head of Japan at Soul Ventures, carries with him over two decades of experience in various aspects of finance, including venture finance, equity analysis, and investment banking within significant markets such as Tokyo and Hong Kong. He has an extensive background, having acted as Chief Financial Officer for platforms including Paidy and INFORICH, where he was instrumental in leading fundraising campaigns and preparation for IPOs. Mr. Inui’s successful tenure in nurturing startups and aligning them for success is a fundamental asset to Indus Capital.

Byron Gill, the Managing Partner of Indus Capital, expressed optimism about Mr. Inui’s arrival, stating, "We look forward to Makio bringing additional momentum to our already well-established and respected Japan franchise. The current landscape featuring corporate governance reforms and shifting market structures is ripe for investment opportunities, making it an exciting period for us in Japan. This is, indeed, the most invigorating time we've experienced in our 25-year history here."

Inui himself shared his thoughts on this new chapter, stating, "Indus is renowned for its excellence in Asian equities investing and holds a deep commitment to research and corporate responsibility. Joining the firm as it celebrates its 25th anniversary is a great honor. I am eager to collaborate with the Portfolio Managers and my new colleagues to enhance our relationships with stakeholders, both within Japan and on a global scale."

Starting his career at Salomon Brothers, Mr. Inui uniquely positioned himself as a renowned financial expert. He eventually became a Managing Director and oversaw several historically significant transactions, including the NTT DoCoMo IPO, which was crucial during the privatization processes of NTT, and gained recognition as the head of Asian Telecom Research at UBS. His remarkable achievements included receiving accolades as a top sell-side analyst by the Institutional Investor, where he was recognized 16 times.

Indus Capital Partners continues to distinguish itself as a premier investment firm in the Asia Pacific region. The company's unique approach stems from their profound local knowledge, robust on-the-ground research capabilities, and a global perspective. It offers hedged and long-only strategies, led by an experienced investment team with offices situated in key global cities including New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and San Francisco.

This latest addition is expected to facilitate enhancing Indus Capital’s initiatives, fostering growth in Japan's dynamic market landscape, and ultimately, driving value creation for the firm’s stakeholders. Beyond traditional investment strategies, engaging with Japanese firms to reform governance practices and align them with international standards will likely position Indus capital favorably in contributing to the evolution of the Japanese market.
