Exploring the Future of Sustainable Food with Animal Welfare Through Circular Chicken Farming

Exploring the Future of Sustainable Food with Animal Welfare Through Circular Chicken Farming

On November 15, 2025, Lively LLC, founded by Takuya Taneda and co-led by Tomomi Miura, will team up with the global idea magazine, IDEAS FOR GOOD, to host an engaging event titled "Exploring the Future of Sustainable Food through Body Knowledge and Science: A Look at Circular Chicken Farming for the Happiness of Humans and Animals." This unique event will take place at the state-of-the-art chicken farm, Unshelled, located on the Fuchu campus of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.

This event is the third in a series designed to deepen the understanding of the value of food and to encourage a proactive engagement with its production. Participants will visit local food producers and distribution processes, offering hands-on experiences that emphasize the importance of animal welfare and sustainable practices in food systems. The event will be facilitated by notable figures such as Mami Sōma from the IDEAS FOR GOOD editorial team, Tomomi Miura, and Professor Takashi Shinmura, an expert in animal welfare research.

The current egg production system prioritizes efficiency and profitability, often at odds with several critical issues, including animal welfare rights, human health, public health, and environmental impacts. Addressing these challenges is paramount, and Lively has taken significant strides by launching the animal welfare model chicken farm, Unshelled, in January 2025. This facility exemplifies the brand's commitment to both education and interactive experiences that highlight sustainable food practices.

In collaboration with IDEAS FOR GOOD, the upcoming event aims to foster discussions on improving food systems while respecting animal welfare and environmental sustainability. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to step inside Unshelled, observe the chickens directly, and engage with various chicken care systems, including traditional cages, enriched cages, aviaries, and free-range environments. This first-hand experience is designed to cultivate empathy and understanding toward both the land and its inhabitants.
