2024 PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition Showcases Innovative Startups in Shenzhen

The 2024 PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition took place on December 5th at the Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) in Shenzhen, China. This notable event was co-hosted by PHBS and Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS), and it featured an exciting lineup of innovative startups from both domestic and international arenas. From a pool of 506 startup projects that were submitted since the kick-off in January, only 36 made it through the rigorous screening process to reach the semifinals. Ultimately, ten outstanding startups were chosen to compete for the title in the grand final.

Among the contenders, the startups represented a diverse array of sectors including artificial intelligence, new materials, and biotechnology. The established panel of judges, composed of scholars, seasoned investors, and successful entrepreneurs, meticulously evaluated each pitch before deciding on the winners.

The competition culminated in several awards. Several third prizes were awarded to Zhiwei Data, YUANWEISHIJIE, BrainThink, SIPIMO Technology Group, Wayo, and XZD Material Technology. The second prize winners included I2Cool, Synphage, and Daosheng Biological (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. The top honor went to Shanmu (Shenzhen) Biotechnology Co. Ltd., an innovative startup established in 2021 in London. This company stands out for its expertise in non-intrusive, continuous health monitoring. They've developed a compact, fully automated spectral robot capable of performing over ten quantitative analyses of urine samples, enabling personalized digital health management solutions for individuals and families.

In addition to the pitch event, the PHBS-CJBS Bay Area Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Forum was held. This forum announced a strategic partnership between PHBS, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The collaboration aims to enhance international cooperation and nurture high-quality development within the innovation ecosystem of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The forum included engaging discussions addressing important themes such as "Future Business Breakthroughs and Transformations in the New Era," focusing on the convergence of industry and AI along with other innovative transformations. A second roundtable dealt with investment trends, decision-making strategies, and the importance of innovation toward advancing productivity.

As the event concluded, anticipation was built for the upcoming 2025 PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition, which promises an exciting new chapter aimed at early-stage technology teams as well as focusing on Shenzhen's burgeoning "20+8" industrial clusters. This annual event continues to highlight the spirit of innovation and the entrepreneurial ecosystem fostered by premier educational institutions, creating opportunities for startups to shine on a global stage.
