Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Great Tides Waterpark
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has excitedly revealed the grand opening of its much-anticipated Great Tides Waterpark, set to debut on
September 4, 2026. This stunning addition will be located on
Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s own private island in the Bahamas and aims to enhance the overall vacation experience for guests.
The excitement isn't just for the opening day; day passes for the waterpark will become available for purchase starting
May 28, 2026. This allows guests who are sailing to Great Stirrup Cay from that date forward to secure their entrance to the park and tailor their island day effortlessly with advance bookings. The waterpark promises to be packed with thrills designed for all ages, making it an ideal destination for families as well as adventure-seekers.
Featuring attractions spread across nearly
six acres, the Great Tides Waterpark will be a family-friendly paradise. At the heart of this extensive adventure area is the
170-foot Tidal Tower, which houses innovative rides including the
Breakwater Blasters, the first water coasters of their kind that feature thrilling drops and uphill blasts. Additional attractions include multiple slides such as the
Whitewater Dash, the
Rapid Mat Racers, and a variety of tube slides like the
Tropic Storm and
Tropic Spiral, set to provide an adrenaline rush.
In addition to these exhilarating features, visitors will be able to enjoy
Cliffside Cove, known for having some of the highest cliff jumps in the industry, along with
The Great Slide, the only four-person body slide in the Caribbean. There's also the
Fearless Falls racing slides and a hidden bar, the
Grotto Bar, which makes for a perfect chill spot while keeping an eye on the fun. Younger kids will have their own dedicated area at
Splash Cay, a
9,000-square-foot zone designed specifically for them, ensuring that they can also partake in the waterpark fun.
For those looking for a more relaxing experience, the
Wandering River offers an exciting twist on the classic lazy river, stretching over
800 feet. Guests can also opt for private cabanas, accommodating up to six people, each designed to provide a shaded retreat right next to the waterpark's attractions.
Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Great Stirrup Cay continues to evolve as the premier private island destination in the Bahamas, and we're excited to officially open Great Tides Waterpark on September 4, 2026.” He added, “With the best activities for families and travelers of all types—from exhilarating slides to relaxing lagoons—our guests can secure their day passes in advance and prepare for an unforgettable day at this spectacular Caribbean paradise.”
This waterpark development follows recent enhancements made to Great Stirrup Cay, including the
Great Life Lagoon, which features beach-style pools and swim-up bars, providing ample space for relaxation with ocean views. The island also offers various offerings suited for families, alongside an adults-only area known as the
Vibe Shore Club. Further improved connectivity makes traversing the island easier with an updated tram system.
Travelers can visit Great Stirrup Cay year-round, with cruises departing from convenient locations, including New York, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, and Miami. Guests eager to experience the first day at Great Tides Waterpark can embark on a seven-day Caribbean cruise on
Norwegian Luna, which will leave from Miami on
August 29, 2026. This cruise will include stops at stunning locations such as
Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic,
St. Thomas, and
Tortola, along with Great Stirrup Cay itself—an excellent chance to combine the latest ship innovations with an exciting new land destination.
