Taiwan's Innovations in Evidence-Based TCM at CPHI Frankfurt 2025

Taiwan is set to bring its unique healthcare achievement to the forefront at the upcoming CPHI Frankfurt 2025, where it has been recognized as having the best healthcare system globally. The event, organized by the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, will showcase how Taiwan effectively integrates modern medical practices with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has proven effective over centuries. The Taiwan Traditional Chinese Medicine Pavilion will be stationed at Stand 12.1 C112 from October 28 to 30, 2025, presenting a collection of scientific innovations that have been developed to address global health challenges.

Among the highlights will be groundbreaking TCM innovations crafted by the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine (NRICM). Products like NRICM101 and NRICM102 were developed as effective treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing vital support at a time when the world needed it the most. These two formulations are currently available in the market, whereas NRICM201 has been targeted for dementia, and NRICM301 aims to aid recovery in post-stroke patients—but is yet to be launched commercially.

A significant manufacturer of these innovative products is Chuang Song Zong, a century-old enterprise known for NRICM101's export to markets like Singapore and Thailand. The company also offers a range of classical TCM products in Switzerland, alongside customized solutions through OEM and ECM partnerships for dietary supplements.

In addition, Li Kang Biotech is making strides on the international stage with NRICM101 and NRICM201, in addition to a vast selection of herbal granules, topical remedies, and teas. The company is well-equipped with GMPh certification and offers ODM/OEM services to expand into foreign markets effectively.

Timing Pharmaceutical, another notable manufacturer of NRICM101, emphasizes the collective effort within Taiwan's TCM sector during the pandemic. “Our team worked collaboratively, day and night, to ensure we met the urgent domestic and international demand for effective TCM remedies,” remarked Ms. Yung-Ning Chan, the company’s President. They have since expanded their offerings to include innovative K-Cup herbal capsules and topical sprays, enriching their portfolio further.

Taiwan Three Mast is another key player, developing specialized products such as water-based medicated plasters and herbal tablets aimed at modernizing traditional remedies for everyday use, solidifying their position in pain relief solutions. Similarly, Grape King Bio synergizes TCM with biotechnology, using innovative mushroom formulations to create nutraceuticals that promote immune health and metabolic functions.

Highlighting this collaboration and integration of traditional practices with contemporary science is Dr. Yi-Chang Su, Director of the Department of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy (DCMP) at Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare. Dr. Su states, “Taiwan serves as an exemplary model of how traditional medicine can contribute meaningfully to contemporary healthcare, especially when substantiated through scientific validation. Through our participation at CPHI Frankfurt, we aim to foster international collaborations and explore new opportunities for TCM on a wider platform.”
