Fortune Global 500 2025 Rankings Revealed

On July 29, 2025, Fortune released the highly anticipated 2025 edition of its Fortune Global 500™ ranking, which lists the largest corporations around the world based on their revenue for the fiscal year 2024. This year, Walmart retained its top position for the twelfth consecutive year, followed closely by Amazon, State Grid, Saudi Aramco, and China National Petroleum. The first ten companies in the list collectively generated over $370 billion in annual revenue, amounting to a staggering total of $4.7 trillion.

The ranking highlights the continued dominance of U.S. companies, with 138 firms making the list, eclipsing the 130 from Greater China, which includes mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

Dominance of Key Industries

The financial sector once again showed its strength, with 121 companies represented. Following closely were the energy sector with 79, automotive parts and vehicles with 35, technology with 34, and healthcare with 33. Collectively, these sectors accounted for 60% of the companies and 66% of the total revenue recorded.

One notable highlight of the 2025 rankings is the Seven Magnificent Companies, which achieved record-breaking revenue of $2 trillion and net profits of $484 billion last year. This group includes powerhouse names such as Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Nvidia, and Tesla.

Record-Setting Female Leadership

In an inspiring milestone, the number of female CEOs in the Global 500 reached a record 33, representing 6.6% of the total list, an increase of five from the previous year. Notable leaders include Mary Barra of GM, who was named Fortune's Most Powerful Woman of 2025, alongside Gail K. Boudreaux of Elevance Health and Jane Fraser of Citigroup.

Geographical Insights

The Global 500 companies are headquartered in 243 cities across 36 countries and territories. The leading cities—Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, and London—host nearly 25% of these corporations. This year, London made a comeback to the top five for the first time since 2022.

Interestingly, nine new companies entered the rankings this year, including QNB Group, Lithia Motors, and ICICI Bank. The full Global 500 list is published in the August/September 2025 issue of Fortune magazine and is available for further exploration on their official website.

Anastasia Nyrkovskaya, CEO of Fortune, commented, “Each year, the Global 500 ranking showcases the fascinating changes and tectonic shifts happening in the global economic landscape. It highlights the stories of the companies, products, and people driving our world forward.” Returning to the theme of transformation, Alyson Shontell, editor-in-chief, noted the global challenges that continue to reshape the world's largest companies.
