Upcoming 2026 National Elementary School Typing Contest

This summer, the Knowledge Programming School in Setagaya, Tokyo, will host the 4th National Elementary School Typing Contest, inviting students from grades 1 to 6 to showcase their typing skills. Participants can sign up through the free typing practice website, Knowledge Typing Free, or via classroom-oriented typing materials, Knowledge Typing for School.

Contest Overview

- Eligibility: Open to all elementary school students from grade 1 to grade 6. Group participation from programming classes and other organizations is welcome.
- Entry Fee: There is no cost to enter the contest.
- Categories: Students will compete in grade-specific divisions plus an expert category.
- Participation Method: Individuals can enter alone or as part of a classroom unit.
- Course Details: Participants will use the contest-specific course found in the “Test Mode” section under Knowledge Typing.
- Application Period: From August 1 to August 28, 2026.
- Application Process: To apply, participants must capture a screenshot of their score on the contest course and submit it.

Prizes and Recognition

All participants will receive a Knowledge Typing Original Notebook along with a certificate of participation. Those who achieve full marks in their respective categories will be awarded a Certificate of Excellence. This contest aims not only to recognize top talents but also to encourage every child’s dedication to improving their typing skills.

Results Announcement

The winners from each grade level and the expert division will be announced on August 31, 2026.

Detailed Course Breakdown

Participants can choose from the following six categories plus the expert division:

- Grade 1: Typing 150 characters in 3 minutes - Short romaji words.
- Grade 2: Typing 250 characters in 3 minutes - Common romaji words.
- Grade 3: Typing 350 characters in 3 minutes - Words including voiced consonants and long vowels.
- Grade 4: Typing 400 characters in 3 minutes - Romaji and English words.
- Grade 5: Typing 450 characters in 3 minutes - Romaji and English words.
- Grade 6: Typing 500 characters in 3 minutes - Romaji and English words.
- Expert Category: Typing 1000 characters in 5 minutes - Includes romaji, English, random strings, and symbols.

The challenge is structured to ensure that participants can compete comfortably at their grade level, providing a supportive environment for learning and practicing.

Knowledge Typing is an online typing practice app designed for elementary school students. It offers a free version for individual learners and a specialized version for schools. Moreover, it is recognized in the Digital Agency's Educational DX Service Map.

About Knowledge Programming School

Located in Kyodo, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, the Knowledge Programming School focuses on developing programming skills among school-age children. With expertise gained from teaching typing, they created and operate the Knowledge Typing application.
