Fireaway Achieves Type Approval and EU/UK Certification for Stat-X®
Fireaway Inc., a prominent player in fire suppression technology, has successfully attained type approval and EU/UK marine equipment certification for its renowned Stat-X® condensed aerosol fire-extinguishing systems. This significant milestone follows an evaluation in accordance with MSC.1/Circ.1270 and is a testament to the company’s commitment to safety and innovation in marine environments.
Overview of Certifications
Earlier this month, Fireaway announced that its Stat-X® systems received certification from Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification. The approval covers three different certificates applicable in the global market, for EU-flagged vessels, and for UK-flagged vessels:
1.
Bureau Veritas Type Approval Certificate (23277/D1 BV): This certificate confirms that Stat-X systems meet all required standards outlined in SOLAS 74, the FSS Code, and the IMO MSC.1/Circ.1270 guidelines. The validity of this certificate runs until
October 22, 2030.
2.
EC Type Examination Certificate (81823/A0 MED): Under the EU Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU, this certificate supports the wheelmark pathway for vessels within the European Union and remains valid until
April 8, 2031.
3.
UK Type-Examination Certificate (81824/A0 UK): Authorized by the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency, this certification allows Stat-X systems to be utilized within UK waters, also valid until
April 8, 2031.
Enhancing Marine Safety
Lance Harry, P.E., president and CEO of Fireaway, articulated the importance of these certifications, stating that “This approval confirms that Stat-X systems meet defined evaluation criteria for use in marine applications subject to SOLAS requirements.” The attainment of type approval not only acknowledges the robustness of the Stat-X system design but also highlights the rigorous assessment processes involved in ensuring safety in maritime operations.
This approval encompasses 15 generator models in the E-series (electrical activation) and T-series (thermal activation). These models are specifically designed for enclosed marine machinery spaces, indicating that they are built to withstand the substantial challenges prevalent in a marine environment, including unique hazards and space restrictions.
Applications in Marine Environments
Stat-X condensed aerosol systems offer a reliable fire suppression solution tailored for enclosed and special-hazard spaces. Their compact design is particularly valuable for marine applications, where space is often at a premium. These systems can be employed across various marine environments such as:
- - Machinery compartments
- - Control cabinets
- - Auxiliary equipment enclosures
The acquisition of both EU and UK certifications, alongside global BV Type Approval, positions Stat-X to effectively participate in more SOLAS-regulated projects around the world, promoting fire safety across maritime landscapes.
