Chelsea Piers Unveils Innovative Swim Facility and Youth Program at Pier 60

Chelsea Piers is excited to announce the upcoming launch of the Chelsea Piers Swim program at Pier 60, a specialized aquatic facility designed to elevate swim education for youth in Manhattan. Set to open in September 2026, this new facility will provide a comprehensive structured swimming instruction plan aimed at preparing children with essential skills, safety awareness, and confidence for a lifetime of swimming enjoyment.

A New Standard for Youth Swim Instruction

The Chelsea Piers Swim program is set to redefine youth swimming for local families. Emphasizing a nurturing yet effective approach, the facility will cater to children from infancy up to teenage years. Equipped with a 65-foot by 20-foot thermal pool, maintained at a comfortable temperature of 90 degrees year-round, the facility also incorporates advanced UV and chlorine filtration systems. These technologies ensure a safe swimming environment by removing 99.9% of bacteria and contaminants.

The structured curriculum focuses on a progression model that allows children to advance alongside their peers. It includes small class sizes, ensuring personalized attention while promoting essential water independence skills. Kate Tewksbury, Vice President at Chelsea Piers, reflecting on the program’s need, noted that many families have had to settle for overcrowded programs in shared facilities. This program aims to change that by focusing on individual growth and a thoughtful approach to instruction.

Tailored Programming for All Ages

From caregiver classes starting at just 3 months to independent swim lessons for kids aged 3 and up, Chelsea Piers Swim offers a wide array of options. The program includes advanced stroke development training, family swim sessions, private lessons, and even birthday parties. Additionally, new classes are set to launch, including an "Intro to Swim" class aimed at older beginners (ages 7 and up), and a "Stroke Development Prep" designed to help proficient swimmers gear up for more advanced training. The aim is to align lessons with each child’s age, comfort level, and skill growth.

By implementing structured badges that track progress, families can visually monitor development milestones achieved throughout the semester, creating a more motivating experience.

A Thoughtful Experience for Parents and Swimmers

Attention to detail extends to parents as well. An aerial mezzanine viewing area will give families the chance to observe lessons without interrupting the swimmers below. This thoughtful design empowers children to focus and learn effectively, while families remain involved without distraction.

The program's model is based on years of successful implementation across Chelsea Piers' other aquatics programs in Stamford and Brooklyn, utilizing feedback from parents and enrollment trends to inform this new Manhattan initiative.

Registration for the inaugural Fall 2026 classes is currently underway, with lessons commencing on September 10, 2026. Families eager to learn more about specific offerings, schedules, and pricing can visit the Chelsea Piers website at chelseapiers.com/swim-chelsea/programs.
