Shanghai Shines Bright as Global Innovation Hub with EmTech China 2025 Launch

Shanghai Embraces Global Innovation at EmTech China 2025

The EmTech China 2025 event commenced on September 12 at the Shibei Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai's Jing'an district. This summit brought together dozens of prominent scientists, innovators, and business leaders to delve into the future of technology and global collaboration. Over the course of two days, attendees participated in plenary sessions, expert debates, and witnessed the annual unveiling of the list of China's 50 smartest companies (TR50).

EmTech, organized by the MIT Technology Review, is recognized as one of the most influential gatherings focused on emerging technologies. Since its debut in China in 2018, EmTech China has established itself as a crucial platform for technological exchanges in the Asia-Pacific region. Previous editions have also been held in other major innovation centers including Boston, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, and New Delhi.

Attendees explored six key themes during the summit:
1. Global cooperation in a changing world
2. From lab to market: The pathway of emerging technologies
3. The inflection point of the AI explosion
4. Transposing code into the physical world
5. Foundations for a sustainable future
6. The next wave of emerging technologies

Among the distinguished speakers were Nobel Laureate Andre Geim, Chinese Academy of Sciences members Tan Weihong and Zhu Meifang, and John A. Rogers, a member of the National Academies of the United States. They presented research on 2D materials, molecular medicine, fiber-based materials, and bioelectronics, illustrating a core trend where fundamental scientific breakthroughs accelerate industrial applications at an unprecedented pace.

The event concluded successfully, leaving a strong message that the true value of technology lies in its tangible contributions to the industry and its ability to address societal challenges. Hosted at the Shibei Hi-Tech Park—an area embodying the vision of 'at Jing'an, for Shanghai, connecting China and the world'—the summit leveraged the integrated innovation ecosystem and vibrant industrial environment of the park, providing fertile ground for translating cutting-edge ideas into concrete solutions and measurable impact.

The successful hosting of EmTech China in Jing'an not only highlights the district's strategic position within China's technological landscape but also signals its proactive engagement with leading global innovation resources. In the future, the insights gained from EmTech China 2025 are expected to converge with the innovation dynamics of 'Dynamic Jing'an' and the Shibei Hi-Tech Park, offering practical solutions and valuable Chinese perspectives to the global tech landscape.
