NEC to Launch the Kawasaki Pro Bono Summit 2025



In an exciting move for social innovation, NEC, alongside Fujitsu and educational institutions like Senshu University, is proud to announce the inaugural Kawasaki Pro Bono Summit 2025. This event aims to unite various stakeholders engaged in pro bono work to tackle social issues effectively. Scheduled for September 1, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM, the summit will be held online via Zoom, accommodating approximately 1,000 participants.

Event Highlights


The summit will feature a rich agenda designed to showcase the value of pro bono initiatives from different perspectives:
1. Introduction to Kawasaki City: Attendees will learn about Kawasaki's community development initiatives and the role of pro bono work in shaping the city’s future.
2. Keynote Presentation: Dr. Kumi Fujisawa, Chairperson of the Institute for International Economic Studies (IISE), will deliver a compelling address on the impact of pro bono collaborations across sectors. Her discussion will delve into how synergies between businesses, government, educational institutions, and the social sector can create substantial community impacts, particularly in the context of an increasingly digital society.
3. Panel Discussion: A roundtable featuring representatives from NEC Pro Bono Club, Fujitsu Pro Bono Group, Kawasaki Pro Bono Team, Senshu University, and various social organizations. They will discuss the current value of pro bono work, future challenges, and prospects in a rapidly evolving landscape.

NEC Pro Bono Club Overview


NEC pioneered pro bono initiatives in Japan in 2010, establishing the NEC Pro Bono Club in 2020, which currently comprises over 730 employees who volunteer their professional skills to address community and educational challenges. In recognition of its impactful work, the NEC Pro Bono Club received the Future Award from Kawasaki City in July 2024 during the city's centennial celebrations.

About Fujitsu and Kawasaki Pro Bono Teams


Fujitsu's Pro Bono Group, founded in 2022, encourages employee participation in volunteer activities across the nation, while the Kawasaki Pro Bono Division facilitates connections between prospective volunteers and local organizations needing assistance. Collaborative projects usually run for three to four months, enabling participants to make tangible contributions to their community’s development.
