Westwood Financial Reports Strong Performance in H1 2026 with Continued Leasing Success

Westwood Financial, a prominent player in the necessity-based retail real estate investment sector, recently unveiled its operational results for the first half of 2026, showcasing impressive growth and leasing activities. With an unwavering focus on high-demand segments, the company has successfully secured numerous leases, reflecting its strength in the competitive retail market.

Leasing Highlights

In the first six months of 2026, Westwood Financial executed a total of 33 new leases spanning an impressive 144,000 square feet, alongside 105 renewals amounting to 320,235 square feet. Notably, the total leased percentage rose to 97.6%, marking a slight increase from 97.4% at the same time the previous year. The in-line shop leased percentage also demonstrated growth at 94.9%, up from 94.5% in the previous year's comparable quarter.

A deeper look into the financial metrics reveals that comparable new rent spreads reached 19.2%, while renewal rent spreads averaged 12.7%. These statistics signify a robust demand for the company’s retail spaces, driven by strategic leasing initiatives and strong relationships with tenants.

Demand Driving Growth

Lauren Ball, the Chief Operating Officer at Westwood Financial, emphasized the growing demand among retailers across their markets, particularly in the expanding Sunbelt regions. “Retailer demand across all our markets, particularly in high-growth Sunbelt regions, is increasing competition and limiting availability of well-located, last-mile, community-oriented space,” Ball noted. This strong demand is the cornerstone of Westwood's operational success and a testament to its strategic focus in high-potential areas.

Over the first half of 2026, Westwood successfully completed more than 464,000 square feet of leasing across its portfolio. A noteworthy 45% of these new leases emerged from retail centers situated in the Southeast, reflecting sustained retailer expansion and healthy consumer demand.

Significant Contributions from Key Markets

Particularly significant leasing activities were noted in North Carolina, where Westwood concluded leases with notable organizations such as PNC Bank at Steelecroft Shopping Center in Charlotte and UNC Health at Towne North in Raleigh. Additionally, Lotte Market has set up at McCrimmon Corners in Morrisville. In the Atlanta market, Glenwood Park, acquired back in 2024, attained a 100% leasing status following the recent additions of Beem Light Sauna and the Beehive.

K.C. Bills, the Chief Executive Officer at Westwood Financial, underscored the resilience and attractiveness of necessity-based retail as a vital segment in real estate. Bills stated, “Strong demographics, limited new supply, and healthy retailer demand support the long-term outlook across our markets.” Furthermore, he reiterated Westwood’s ongoing dedication towards creating long-term value via diligent asset management and strategic capital allocation.
