Hong Kong's Zonta Clubs Unite for the "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women" Campaign
In a moment of collective strength, seven Zonta Clubs in Hong Kong have joined hands to promote the campaign "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women". This collaborative effort supports the Po Leung Kuk's mobile art exhibition titled "Violence? Love!!: A Voyage of Discovery". The recent tragic fire in Tai Po serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need to address societal issues affecting vulnerable groups, particularly women.
The Zonta Clubs participating in this initiative include:
- - Zonta Club of Hong Kong
- - Zonta Club of Kowloon
- - Zonta Club of Hong Kong East
- - Zonta Club of The New Territories
- - Zonta Club of Victoria Hong Kong
- - Zonta Club of Hong Kong II
- - Zonta Club of The New Territories II
The exhibition’s launch celebrated the resilience and unity of the community as various leaders, including Zonta International District 17 Governor Mrs. Winnie Wong and Chairman of Po Leung Kuk Ms. Amanda Ho, joined to underscore the importance of awareness in combating domestic violence. The shocking figures presented by the World Health Organization reveal that violence against women is prevalent, affecting approximately one in three women globally. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated these trends, leading to increased instances of violence and abuse, notably in Hong Kong where studies indicate nearly 40% of women have faced sexual abuse.
Since its inception in 2012, the "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women" campaign has played a pivotal role in raising awareness and promoting advocacy aimed at eradicating this pervasive issue. The annual "16 Days of Activism" event, spanning from November 25, the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, the UN’s International Human Rights Day, galvanizes action not only within Zonta but across communities worldwide.
The mobile exhibition "Violence? Love!!: A Voyage of Discovery" offers an interactive experience designed to engage the public and foster understanding. It features segments such as "The True Stories of Seven Weapons", which invites visitors to explore the journeys of domestic violence survivors and emphasizes the transformation of harmful narratives into messages of love and strength.
The tour of the mobile art exhibition, which runs from December 8 to 14, 2025, will cover key locations across Hong Kong, including:
- - Causeway Bay
- - Mong Kok
- - Wong Tai Sin
- - Tsuen Wan
This initiative aims to not only highlight the grave reality of domestic violence but also to showcase the vital support services offered by Po Leung Kuk. The organization seeks to enlighten the public about the often-hidden factors contributing to domestic violence and the transformative potential of healing and education.
As Hong Kong continues to navigate the complexities surrounding domestic violence, the efforts of the Zonta Clubs illustrate a commitment to fostering safer communities through advocacy and tangible support. As stated by Mrs. Wong, the collaboration represents a community on the front lines of ensuring women's safety and dignity, championing a world where every woman can thrive free from violence.
Through combined efforts, the Zonta Clubs aim to lead a cultural shift that integrates respect and understanding, ultimately building a brighter, more equitable future for women everywhere.
