Celebrate Roomba Day with iRobot's Design Contest!

Mark your calendars for June 8, as it's officially #RoombaDay! This year marks a special occasion as iRobot Japan is celebrating the 10th anniversary of this day, dedicated to the iconic robotic vacuum cleaner. To celebrate the launch of their entirely new Roomba lineup, iRobot is hosting the New Roomba Design Contest until June 15.

A History of Roomba Day

In 2015, iRobot declared June 8 as Roomba Day, a fun play on words with the Japanese character numbers 6 (Ro), 0 (N), and 8 (Ba), earning an official recognition from the Japan Anniversary Association. Over the years, Roomba Day has gained popularity, with fans sharing expressions of gratitude and creative illustrations across social media, increasing awareness each year.

A Revolutionary Roomba Lineup

Earlier this April, iRobot refreshed its entire Roomba lineup for the first time, unveiling six models ranging from entry-level to flagship. The designs are as innovative as the technologies integrated into these new devices. The updated design aesthetic employs a new design language, featuring a faceplate that creatively combines circles and lines, giving a fresh perspective while maintaining the Roomba's iconic style.

Insaun Hong, the industrial design director behind the new designs, expressed his vision: "We've achieved a Roomba design that is both intelligent and inviting, seamlessly blending into home environments. I hope people in Japan will love it!"

Enter the New Roomba Design Contest

Participants of the contest are invited to use their creativity to design the new Roomba faceplate. To enter, simply post your design on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the hashtags #RoombaDay and #NewRoombaDesignContest. Not only will participants showcase their creativity, but they also stand a chance to win exciting prizes:

• - Grand Prize (1 winner): Receive the latest Roomba® Plus 505 Combo Robot along with the AutoWash™ Charging Station, featuring advanced water cleaning technologies and maintenance-free capabilities.

How to Participate

1. Follow iRobot Japan's official account on X (@iRobot_Style).
2. Download the design template provided and unleash your creativity!
3. Post your creations by including the contest hashtags.

All forms of artistic expression are welcome. Whether you prefer traditional hand-drawn methods using colored pencils or crayons, or digital designs, all submissions are encouraged. As long as it’s your original work, there are no limitations on how many designs you can submit! However, the use of generative AI tools is discouraged.

Insaun Hong himself is getting in on the action, having designed a unique take on the Roomba that plays with the concept of an internal x-ray, showcasing the inner workings of the robot in an artistic format.
