In a significant move aimed at strengthening its foothold in one of the world's most critical automotive markets,
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has recently appointed
Yujiro Yamada as the Managing Director and head of its newly established
Automotive Industry Group (AIG) in Japan. This initiative marks A&M's commitment to expand its support for Japanese automotive manufacturers, suppliers, and investors, especially as the industry shifts towards electric vehicles (EVs).
The announcement was made on
September 8, 2026, during a press event held in Tokyo. A&M co-founder and co-CEO
Brian Marsal emphasized the importance of the Japanese automotive market, stating, "Japan is one of the most crucial automotive markets globally, and we are rapidly advancing our support system for our clients in this sector. With Mr. Yamada's extensive practical experience and hands-on leadership, we aim to help our clients translate strategies into action and accelerate transformation."
The newly formed AIG will play a pivotal role in assisting Japanese automotive players as they navigate complex decisions in areas such as production base reconfiguration, supply chain review, and business portfolio prioritization, particularly with the pressing transition to EVs. A&M Japan previously opened an office in
October 2025 to provide tax and global transaction advisory services, and the introduction of AIG is regarded as a strategic step toward broadly offering A&M’s expertise in performance improvement and turnaround support within the Japanese market.
Jeffrey Stegenga, Managing Director and Practice Leader for U.S. Commercial Restructuring at A&M, commented, “Japanese manufacturers and suppliers are facing tough decisions regarding production sites and supply chains against the backdrop of intensifying competition and a challenging revenue environment. With Mr. Yamada on board, who brings extensive experience across Japan and the Asia-Pacific and European regions, we have fortified our ability to support clients in adapting to the business landscape and seizing global growth opportunities.”
Yujiro Yamada brings over 25 years of advisory experience specifically tailored for automotive manufacturers and suppliers across
Japan, the Asia-Pacific, and
Europe. His expertise encompasses business restructuring, performance improvement, and complex cross-border transactions. Prior to joining A&M, Yamada spent nearly eight years with
EY-Parthenon, where he led the
Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility sector in Japan. Earlier in his career, he managed the Value Creation Services team at
Deloitte in Tokyo for the Asia-Pacific region.
Fluent in Japanese, German, and English, Yamada’s diverse background allows him to leverage deep insights into both Japanese and German automotive markets, enabling him to provide substantial support to manufacturers in both regions.
Upon his new appointment, Yamada remarked, “A&M provides a platform that combines independence with a global network, empowering us to support strategic decision-making aimed at enhancing corporate performance and long-term value creation. I look forward to contributing to the sophistication of our clients’ operations and building a more resilient global business foundation.”
With the establishment of the Automotive Industry Group, A&M is poised to be at the forefront of helping automotive companies in Japan meet the evolving challenges of the industry while capitalizing on new opportunities through enhanced collaboration and strategic advisory services.
