Data Analysis Supports Findings



Recent analysis conducted using Seegene's STAgora™ platform revealed a significant finding from the evaluation of approximately 60,000 test outcomes collected over 42 months. The data indicated that sexually transmitted infection pathogens (STIs) were detected in 82% of HPV-positive cases. This finding suggests a profound interplay between HPV and various STIs, emphasizing the value of a comprehensive testing strategy that can provide insights into both HPV status and the presence of concurrent pathogens.

The Importance of HPV and STI Testing



Human papillomavirus (HPV) is widely recognized as the leading cause of cervical cancer, with certain high-risk genotypes, particularly HPV-16 and HPV-18, being closely associated with the disease's progression. Given that screening and follow-up care strategies may differ based on the detected HPV genotype, identification of the virus, along with its genotyping, offers vital clinical information that can significantly impact patient treatment plans.

Moreover, STIs are caused by a diverse range of pathogens, including Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and manifest through a wide array of symptoms such as abnormal discharge, dysuria (painful urination), and even infertility. Since multiple pathogens can cause similar clinical presentations, identifying the causative agent based on symptoms alone can be quite challenging. Furthermore, common asymptomatic infections may contribute to unnoticed transmission. Recent research underscores the possibility that STIs and vaginal dysbiosis are interconnected with changes in the local inflammatory, immune, and microbial environment of the cervix, potentially influencing HPV infection, persistence, or elimination.

Clinical Context Matters



This growing body of evidence reinforces the necessity of interpreting findings related to HPV and STIs within a broader clinical context, including factors like the patient's age, symptoms, sexual history, pregnancy plans, and history of previous infections. Collectively, these insights provide a scientific rationale for further assessing a comprehensive testing approach that evaluates HPV risk alongside concomitant STIs and reproductive tract infections.

Results of the STAgora™ Analysis



Utilizing the STAgora™ platform for real-time test data analysis and statistical evaluation, Seegene internally processed approximately 60,000 results from concurrent HPV and STI testing collected over 42 months. The analysis revealed that STI pathogens were found in 82% of cases with positive HPV findings, while HPV was identified in 46% of STI-positive cases. Notably, concurrent detection of HPV and STI pathogens was observed in 71% of positive cases identified through comprehensive testing.

These findings highlight the potential utility of concurrent STI testing alongside HPV screening. Promising applications include the identification of asymptomatic STIs, assessment of coinfections in HPV-positive individuals, and support for reproductive health evaluations—especially in the context of pregnancy planning or infertility assessments.

Future Plans with GMCS



Through the GMCS, Seegene will continue to gather clinical evidence for the efficacy of its comprehensive HPV and STI testing.
