Bybit.eu Enhances Its European Presence with EMI License for Bybit Payments GmbH

Bybit.eu Expands European Offerings

In a significant move for the cryptocurrency sector, Bybit.eu has announced the acquisition of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license for its subsidiary, Bybit Payments GmbH. This development signals Bybit's commitment to providing enhanced financial services within Europe. The license, granted by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA), allows Bybit Payments GmbH to operate regulated e-money and payment services directly through the Bybit.eu platform.

The EMI license is poised to broaden the array of services available to users, creating a more seamless integration of crypto-asset services alongside traditional financial services. Bybit Payments GmbH intends to leverage this license to introduce numerous payment capabilities, including person-to-person payments, Strong Customer Authentication, and merchant solutions. These innovations aim to create a unified experience for customers across Europe, ensuring that all services are accessible under one platform.

Georg Harer, Managing Director at both Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH, emphasized the importance of this regulatory achievement. He noted that Europe is at the forefront of establishing a structured framework for the convergence of digital assets and financial services, serving as a global benchmark in this domain. Harer remarked, "The EMI license granted to Bybit Payments GmbH is an important milestone in our long-term commitment to Europe. Together with the MiCAR authorization, it enables us to connect crypto-assets, payments, and everyday financial services seamlessly on the Bybit.eu platform."

Notably, Bybit EU GmbH, the entity responsible for crypto-asset services, has been authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) since May 2025. This separation of regulatory responsibilities ensures that whilst Bybit Payments GmbH handles electronic money services, Bybit EU GmbH focuses on the management of crypto-assets, maintaining compliance with strict regulatory guidelines.

Bernhard Krick, Managing Director of Bybit Payments GmbH, reiterated the importance of maintaining clear distinctions between the two regulated entities. He stated, "Each entity will operate within its own permissions, allowing customers to access both crypto-asset and payment services seamlessly through the Bybit.eu platform." This structure ensures adherence to legal frameworks while enhancing user experience.

As Bybit Payments GmbH embarks on its mission to build a robust payment infrastructure, it aims to foster partnerships with financial institutions and payment providers. This strategic direction will help reduce dependence on third-party payment systems, creating a more independent and efficient payment network over time.

While detailed product launch timelines and specifics about the rollout across Europe are yet to be disclosed, the prospects for Bybit's expansion in the European market appear promising. This initiative not only marks a pivotal step in Bybit’s journey but also highlights the broader evolution of cryptocurrency services intertwined with traditional finance.

Bybit.eu stands as a vital platform through which these services are made available, further aiming to cater to the growing demands of the European crypto-asset market. With both Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH holding critical regulatory authorizations, they are well-positioned to lead the charge in elevating digital finance solutions for a new generation of users.

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding product launches and strategic initiatives that will further enrich the Bybit.eu experience as a comprehensive financial hub for the European audience.
