ATLANT 3D, A*STAR IMRE and NAMIC Partnering to Innovate AI-Driven Materials Discovery in Singapore

ATLANT 3D Partners with ASTAR IMRE and NAMIC to Propel AI-Driven Materials Discovery

In an exciting development for advanced manufacturing and materials science, ATLANT 3D, the A
STAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (ASTAR IMRE), and the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to establish the A-HUB in Singapore, a center focused on revolutionizing materials discovery through artificial intelligence (AI).

The Vision Behind A-HUB

The A-HUB is designed to merge ATLANT 3D’s innovative DALP® technology—Direct Atomic Layer Processing—with A
STAR IMRE’s extensive material engineering expertise and NAMIC’s strengths in additive manufacturing and ecosystem development. This collaboration is intended to streamline the application of AI in materials research, particularly for advanced packaging technologies, silicon photonics, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Dr. Maksym Plakhotnyuk, CEO and founder of ATLANT 3D, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: "Singapore is globally recognized for its pioneering work in advanced materials and next-generation manufacturing technologies at an industrial scale. By integrating our DALP® technology with ASTAR IMRE’s leading material expertise and NAMIC’s innovation ecosystem, we aim to create the world’s first high-throughput materials innovation foundry tailored for advanced applications in semiconductors, silicon photonics, and advanced packaging technologies."

Accelerating Materials Discovery

The A-HUB will focus on supporting high-throughput materials synthesis, autonomous material discovery, and accelerated technology development. It will enable innovative projects in collaboration with industry partners, thereby enhancing Singapore’s infrastructure for advanced manufacturing and solidifying its position as a key player in the global materials innovation landscape.

Prof. Loh Xian Jun, executive director of A
STAR IMRE, highlighted the importance of this partnership: "Integrating cutting-edge atomic layer deposition techniques into our material development processes will enhance the exploration and optimization of functional thin-film materials. The collaboration combines ATLANT 3D’s advanced deposition expertise with our strong competencies in materials science and superior characterization infrastructure, allowing us to translate research outcomes into practical applications for Singapore’s advanced manufacturing sector."

Meeting Global Material Challenges

Dr. Ho Chaw Sing, chairman of NAMIC and chief executive officer of ASTAR’s Science and Engineering Research Council, remarked, "The next challenge facing humanity requires breakthroughs in materials with superior properties enabled through digital additive processes in a closed-loop system. A-HUB aims to serve as a shared platform that closely connects research, industry, and ecosystem partners to accelerate the transition of super-materials from the lab to production, solidifying Singapore’s role as a global hub for next-generation materials and advanced manufacturing."

Conclusion

As this collaboration unfolds, the establishment of A-HUB marks a significant milestone in the intersection of AI and materials science, showcasing Singapore’s commitment to being at the forefront of technological innovation. The project promises to unlock new possibilities in materials discovery and manufacturing, potentially revolutionizing various sectors in the years to come.
