KONGSBERG Unveils Sonar AI: Revolutionizing Fishing with Virtual Assistance

KONGSBERG Launches Innovative Sonar AI Solution

In a groundbreaking move that could transform the fishing industry, KONGSBERG has launched its latest innovation, Sonar AI, designed in collaboration with Viam. Revealed at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, this advanced sonar operator leverages artificial intelligence to enhance fish-finding capabilities. This initiative is part of a broader partnership between KONGSBERG and Viam that began in 2025 with the integration of Viam's technology in the Simrad SY50 sonar.

Enhancing Fishing Operations

Sonar AI represents a significant leap in fishing technology, offering captains an always-active virtual sonar operator that continuously monitors sonar data. Its primary function is to detect fish in real-time, alerting crews instantly and placing visual markers on the sonar display. This means that even if a captain's attention is elsewhere, Sonar AI can provide directional audio alerts to indicate which sonar beam has detected the fish, ensuring that no opportunity is missed.

The system also tracks fishing history for an insightful retrospective analysis, making it increasingly accurate over time and allowing for predictive fish-finding tailored to user preferences.

KONGSBERG's Technological Advancements

KONGSBERG has made it clear that the introduction of Sonar AI is not just an upgrade but a revolutionary step for marine technology. Featuring advanced elements, the new Simrad SY60 sonar, which supports the use of Sonar AI, enhances power and resolution, providing clearer imagery and better target clarity than its predecessor, the SY50. Current users of the SY50 can easily transition to the SY60, making the adoption of this innovative technology feasible and cost-effective.

Eliot Horowitz, the Founder, and CEO of Viam, emphasized the collaboration's impact: “Pairing the Simrad SY60 with the Viam platform enables KONGSBERG to bring a truly transformative product to market.” This partnership underscores the potential of merging AI and robotics with real-world applications, particularly in the marine environment, enhancing user experiences and safety.

Future Enhancements and Offers

Looking forward, KONGSBERG is already planning future updates for Sonar AI, with the potential to assist in adjusting sonar settings, changing scanning modes, and optimizing detection configurations—essentially refining the fishing process.

Additionally, to kickstart the integration of this advanced technology, a special introductory offer has been made available for the first 50 boats. Interested parties can visit kongsberg.com/syai for more details.

Demonstrations of the system are taking place at Booth #563 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, where attendees can experience the capabilities of the new AI-powered sonar firsthand.
