Innovative Donation by MOL
On October 22, 2025, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), led by President Tsuyoshi Hashimoto, proudly donated a ship model of the
Matsukaze Maru, a coal transport vessel, equipped with the world's first Wind Challenger wind propulsion system, to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during the Wind Propulsion Reception hosted by the International Windship Association (IWSA) in London.
The commemorative ceremony took place as part of the 20th GHG Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships, which gathered more than 200 representatives from various countries and stakeholders in the maritime industry between October 20 and 24. During the reception, MOL showcased its efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions using the Wind Challenger technology, fostering a productive exchange of ideas regarding wind propulsion in shipping.
The event featured key figures, including Mr. Gavin Allwright, Secretary General of IWSA, and Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of IMO, alongside MOL Executive Officer Tatsuhiro Watanabe. Their collective presence highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing sustainable practices within the maritime sector.
