During the New Year, I visited Hamamatsu Castle with my family—an essential historical site where Tokugawa Ieyasu, amidst numerous challenges, laid the foundation for over 260 years of peace in Edo. Ieyasu taught us a vital lesson: "Stability visits those unafraid of change."

He did not rush into transformation yet avoided complacency. Instead, he persevered, collected resources, and learned; when the time was right, he altered the very structures of society. This sophisticated balance of patience and decisive action symbolizes true leadership.

Today's Japan needs to shift its focus away from destructive transformation. While we have achieved a certain level of stability, the pace of change is evidently lacking. As technology evolves and society accelerates, it’s concerning that many still entrust their lives to precedents, social norms, and external judgments.

What we require is not revolution or conflict; it's about awakening quietly to our own potential. We must take ownership of our narratives without blaming others. Gradually, we need to engage with our own reasons for learning, working, and making choices. This transformation fosters collaboration over conflict and enables renewal without societal breakdown.
