LONGi and FARIA RENEWABLES Join Forces for Solar Power and Historic Preservation in Greece
LONGi and FARIA RENEWABLES Collaborate on Renewable Energy Projects in Greece
LONGi Solar Europe, a pioneer in solar energy technology, has recently entered into a significant partnership with FARIA RENEWABLES, a prominent company in vertical energy investments. This collaboration aims at establishing two utility-scale solar power plants in the Thessaly region of Greece: the 45.5 MW "Athamas" project located in Almyros and the 36 MW "Mykonos" project based in Farsala. The agreement entails the supply of more than 125,000 of LONGi's high-efficiency Hi-MO9 solar modules.
Innovative Solar Technology Meets Historical Preservation
During the development of the Athamas project, a remarkable finding occurred: archaeologists discovered burial monuments that date back to both the prehistoric and Byzantine eras. This unexpected discovery sheds light on the region's rich history. Consequently, the archaeological authorities are actively overseeing the excavation and conservation of the site, ensuring that the preservation of Greece's historical heritage is in sync with the country's move towards renewable energy.
When operational, the Athamas project is projected to produce around 80,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, effectively powering approximately 16,000 households and preventing around 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year. The Athamas initiative marks the largest photovoltaic (PV) development undertaken by FARIA RENEWABLES to date, highlighting both the technological advancements and sustainability efforts in the energy sector.
Efficient Energy Production through Advanced Technology
Both the Athamas and Mykonos installations will utilize LONGi's state-of-the-art Back Contact (BC) technology, designed specifically to maximize power generation in high-irradiance settings while substantially lowering generation costs. Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, "Our collaboration with FARIA RENEWABLES is rooted in mutual trust and a shared dedication to excellence. By deploying our flagship Hi-MO9 modules using HPBC 2.0 back contact technology, we ensure unmatched efficiency, making optimal use of land while providing decades of reliable power for Greece."
Thalia Valkouma, Chair of the Board and CEO of FARIA RENEWABLES, expressed pride in these projects, stating, "The Athamas and Mykonos projects signify a major achievement for us, with Athamas being our largest solar initiative thus far. By implementing LONGi's cutting-edge technology and smart mixed-structure layouts, we are poised to enhance performance in the energy market, setting a new standard for future Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in the region."
A Step Forward in Greece's Energy Transition
Athanasios Plainos, LONGi's Country Manager for Greece and Cyprus, remarked, "Solar photovoltaic technology will be the backbone of Greece's transition to clean energy. By partnering with FARIA RENEWABLES on these critical projects, we are introducing the next generation of Hi-MO9 technology into the Greek utility sector. This transformation will decrease balance of system (BOS) costs and elevate system efficiency, accelerating both green transition and environmental safeguarding efforts in the region."
The cooperative initiative between LONGi and FARIA RENEWABLES stands as a testament to the potential of renewable energy to power modern developments while simultaneously honoring and preserving the rich tapestry of history that resides within the land. The projects not only promise to deliver substantial energy outputs but also demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and heritage conservation in Greece.
